Mind Control Research

During the period 1975 through 1977 a series of events led to disclosure that U.S. government agencies were funding various mind control experiments which included the testing of LSD, brainwashing, narco-hypnosis, electronic stimulation of the brain, and other technologies designed to control human behavior.

These programs had been conducted since at least World War II, and included the Central Intelligence Agency, Office of Naval Investigation, Air Force Intelligence, the Army Chemical Corps, Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Institute of Health, the National Institute of Justice, and the Atomic Energy Commission. The most notorious of these programs was conducted under the CIA codename MKULTRA. Director of Central Intelligence Richard Helms testified to Congress that he had ordered the resulting files on 149 subprojects burned in 1973, claiming that he did not want to "embarrass" the many psychiatrists and universities which had participated, and that they didn't learn very much anyway. Skepticism remains about that and many other statements which the CIA has made about this subject. What is certain is that Mind Control research did not completely stop, but rather was continued under other codenames like MKCHICKWIT, MKNAOMI, etc., and that some continued under the nominal control of other agencies. In the 1990's, at least some mind control research was still being conducted by the military's "non-lethal weapons program" but all details are classified.

Congressional hearings into these projects in 1975 and 1976 resulted in legislation intended to provide more stringent oversight of the CIA. However, in the aftermath of many very shocking revelations, no criminal indictments were issued despite sometimes lethal experiments on subjects who included prisoners and psychiatric patients. Meanwhile, rumors of similar experiments on prisoners of war from the Vietnam and Korean eras (alleging abuse by Soviet, U.S. and other intelligence agencies) persisted.

Since the time of these disclosures there has been no congressional oversight of this type of research in America with the exception of a 1984 hearing of the Committee on Science and Technology, which dealt primarily with subliminal communication technology.

The publication of books and articles on mind control research in recent times has drawn mostly from declassified files from the late 1970's and earlier, testimony of persons who say they are victims of government experiments, and unverifiable "sources" within the intelligence or scientific community. Therefore, data here is especially error prone. Also, a penumbra of mentally ill people are attracted to this subject as a possible explanation for their own very real problems. This adds further to the general confusion. So be cautious evaluating allegations in the mind control research domain, but be not naive either. Systematic, well funded research has been done in this area for decades, by governments, by advertisers, and by cults among others.

It is reported that duplicate, dummy programs are run by governments to confuse any investigations; funding is dispersed through third party or "cut out" organizations, and compartmentalization of projects insures that only a very few people at the top know the overall scope and results of this research. Modern research involves a number of universities and private companies which are funded through the university grant system or the awarding of lucrative government contracts, then made to sign secrecy oaths.

Current mind control and exotic warfare research is reported to include the use of brainwashing; hypnosis and narco-hypnosis; electro-convulsive therapy; narcotics, psychedelics and other behavioral altering drugs; high production behavior and neuro-linguistics programming; remote telepathy including "astral projection" and other psychic phenomena; computer generated telepathy; biomedical engineering; low frequency sound; microwaves; electromagnetic pulses; Radio Hypnotic Intercerebral Control - Electronic Dissolution of Memory; very low frequency sound; ultrasonics; high powered microwave pulses, oscillating magnetic fields, and other lesser known technologies.

Other types of mind control cases include the alleged Monarch Project, which was designed to take children at a very early age and program them through brainwashing, narco-hypnosis, torture, and fragmenting of the personality (creating multiple personality disorder). This was reportedly done to create "sex-slaves," couriers, drug mules, assassins, and agents whose memories could be erased after they completed their assigned missions. This paradigm, called "trauma-based programming," has also been alleged to occur in some satanic groups, which may have been experimenting with such methods of mind control for many generations.

The whole subject of cults becomes relevant here, because they are often the masters of mind control, without usually resorting to exotic technical aids. Space is limited, so we will not enter that domain further here, but note that it is important.

Another important sub-topic in the quest to understand mind control research was the program to import Nazi scientists into America's national security establishment shortly after World War II. At the time, it seemed necessary, because both Russians and Americans were scrambling to seize the most valuable German scientific "assets" (both technical and human) in preparation for what would become the Cold War. In retrospect, the infusion of large numbers of very highly skilled and sometimes dedicated Nazi's into both U.S. and S.U. security systems appeared to damage the devotion to higher ideals which each side at least occasionally maintained. The most famous U.S. plan, which imported at least 1600 German scientists and their families into America, and gave many of them very top secret security clearances and full-time jobs in our weapons and spy programs, was called operation "PAPERCLIP." Two official quotes on MKULTRA and PAPERCLIP follow.

Background on MKULTRA:

From the President's Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments

(final report, October, 1995)

"Beginning in the early 1950's, the CIA engaged in an extensive program of human experimentation, using drugs, psychological, and other means in search of techniques to control human behavior. The CIA claims it has found no evidence that radiation experiments on humans were part of this program. However, CIA documents and a 1963 CIA Inspector General report state quite clearly that MKULTRA was a program "concerned with research and development of chemical, biological, and radiological materials capable of employment in clandestine operations to control human behavior."

The program included unwitting experimentation on humans with LSD, Brainwashing, and other interrogation methods."

Background on Project Paperclip:

From the President's Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments.

(final report, October, 1995)

"Project Paperclip was a postwar and Cold War operation carried out by the Joint Intelligence Objectives Agency. Paperclip had two aims: to exploit German scientists for American research, and to deny intellectual resources to the Soviet Union. At least 1600 scientists and their dependents were recruited and brought to America by Paperclip and its successor projects through the early 1970's. The most famous of these was Wernher von Braun.

In recent years, it has been alleged that many of these individuals were brought to the U.S.A. in violation of American government policy not to permit the entrance of "ardent Nazis" into the country, that many were security risks, and that some were implicated in Holocaust-related activities."

Remember that the most powerful mind control instrument yet developed for mass audiences, is the simple television. Those who control information broadcast on TV, and that which is censored, have enormous influence over public discussion and agendas. Also, note that a company whose board is a who's who of spies purchased the firm which maintains all internet domain names in 1996. These are professionals at controlling information, and they are very highly resourced, so we should simply recognize that they recognized the power of the internet long before many people had heard of it.

One of our foreign intelligence sources noted that information warfare is already substantial on the internet, and there is no doubt that information warfare has been a hot topic in security circles for at least a generation. Information warfare includes basic propaganda, far more sophisticated psychological warfare techniques, and a range of other, more technical means for attempting destruction or confusion of targeted "assets" (like inserting lethal viruses or covert trapdoors into enemy computer systems, or merely blowing people's minds by technical means). So, caveat emptor! as they say in the business world.

The most significant error for contemporary citizens is the illusion that research on mind control techniques and technologies stopped in the 1970's. Instead, programs were renamed, shifted to other, even more secretive agencies, or contracted out to non-governmental organizations. Remember that in 1996, for example, there were line items in the Pentagon's budget for "Non-Lethal Weapons" for mind control research.

Organizations seeking to help mind control victims have been identified including the:

Finally, we found a site so rich in data on mind control research, biological weapons, and other exotic but important subjects that we don't quite know what to make of it yet. Whoever they are, they are highly resourced and appear dedicated to ideals we certainly agree with. So you might try out the:
