1)      Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed, “Why the Media lie:  The Corporate Structure of the Mass-media” (part one)

“…we will focus on the principal reason why the official story should be doubted by the public: the fact that the media amounts to a propaganda machine for elite interests.”

2)      Nafeez Mossadez Ahmed, “Why the Media lie:  America in Terror:  The War on Islam” (part two)

“…a clear example of how the mass media usually operates, not as an impartial provider of untainted facts, but rather as a highly partial provider of ideological legitimacy to elite interests and policies.”

3)      Alex Jones, “Shuttle Disaster as Textbook Psychological Warfare Operation”,

“…the space program is at the core of American pride, and we see our astronauts as our greatest heroes -- great explorers. Their deaths cause insecurity, fear and anger. But don't worry, your gracious leader Lord Bush will feel the pain with you. Many weak-minded Americans will shift into mindless group-think and poll numbers for the war will rapidly rise.”

4)      Mike Allen, “Pentagon Plans Iraq Channel”, Washington Post

“…to circumvent what President Bush calls the news media "filter," the Pentagon plans to launch a 24-hour satellite channel from Baghdad to make it easier for U.S. television stations to air government-authorized news about Iraq.”

5)      Antero Alli, “World Entertainment War”,

“…World Entertainment Warriors use their wildest imaginations as combat weapons, as power tools and as mojo healing totems for inspiring people to death. If religion is the opiate of the masses then, the death of religion is the birth of poetry.”

(health, media, technology)

7)      Anti-Mass-media Mind-control Messages,

Investigating the Possibility (and Plausibility) of Subliminal Persuasion

8)      “Active Measurements”,

“The intoxication (or tactical misinformation) is another form of active measurement which consists in establishing false information in the services of enemy information via a intoxicator (generally a double agent).”

9)      “Misinformation”,

“The misinformation as action aims mainly the world opinion and/or the opinion of a population by the use of media of mass, but not the leaders.  The handling of the leaders is done via the public opinion.”

10)  “The Planning of Psychological Action”,

“The arrival of data processing enormously offers new possibility to the psychological actions. While leaving with the premise which information became a source of power and which we became completely depend on the information processing systems, Schwartau (1993) described a new way of making the war, the infoguerre.”

11)  “Psychological Action”,

“According to Durandin (1993), propaganda uses information to exert an influence on the attitudes. This information aims at leading a modification of the data processing at the individual in order to make him perceive reality differently (Durandin, 1993). The propagandist hopes to modify control starting from this change of perceptions or opinion.”

12)  “Techniques of Handling of the Masses”,

“The psychological action ( psychological operations or PSYOPS) include/understand any form of planned action taken to affect the perception or the behavior of a selected political target without the use of force military.”

13)  “The 50…26…20 Corporations that own our media”, Ben Bagdikian,

“The safest way to ensure diversity of opinion is diverse ownership. But this ideal has been sacrificed by government devotion to the mythical doctrine of free market economics.”

14)  “The Media Monopoly”,  Ben Bagdikian, (David Barsamian)

“The effective homogenized narrow spectrum of news and context is profound. A country whose major news media are homogenized and confined to a narrow spectrum of ideas and information oriented around the centers of power will soon have national politics also homogenized around the centers of power, and that, I'm afraid, is what we have today.”

15)  “Vague Warnings and Public Panic Sept. 11 2001”, Ben Bagdikian, Z-net Commentary

“Allport and Postman studied riots and public hysteria based on real fears but vague information. They reduced their studies to a specific formulation: The greater the public anxiety and the greater the inadequate credible information, the greater the chances are for panic and hysteria.”

16)  “Fear Real-Life Matrix will be monitoring you”,

“ ‘Programs like Matrix are a quantum leap backward in the protection of  our privacy," added Barry Steinhardt, director of the ACLU's technology and liberty program. "This is an attempt to connect together all the strands of our private lives.’"

17)  “Mass Delusions and Hysterias”, Robert E. Bartholomew and Erich Goode,

“Collective delusions are typified as the spontaneous, rapid spread of false or exaggerated beliefs within a population at large, temporarily affecting a particular region, culture, or country. Mass hysteria is most commonly studied by psychiatrists and physicians. Episodes typically affect small, tightly knit groups in enclosed settings such as schools, factories, convents and orphanages.”

18)  “Battle for the Mind:  Behavioral and Psychological Warfare”,

“…even in peacetime propaganda can serve to demoralize, destabilize, and divide internally a hostile enemy. Various techniques have been explored - the use of false rumours, doctored photographs and images, and "planted" news stories - fall into this category.”

19)  “British Cell-Phone Safety Alert”, interview, Robert O. Becker,

"I have no doubt in my mind that at the present time the greatest polluting element in the earth's environment is the proliferation of electromagnetic fields. " - Robert O. Becker, M. D., Orthopedic Surgeon

20)  “Freedom of Expression and New Technologies”, Konrad Becker

“Most of new media and ICT have a military control technology background.
So a primary concern regarding these technologies is their use for the
purposes of political control and repression.”

21)  “Vandalism in the Sky”, Nick Begich and Jeane Manning, [HAARP]

“Air Force documents revealed that a system had been developed for manipulating and disrupting human mental processes through pulsed radio-frequency radiation (the stuff of HAARP) over large geographical areas.”

22)  “Was Orwell Right?” John Bennett,

“The central theme of his book, the control of history, has already been largely written out of references to his book and has disappeared down the memory hole.”

23)  quotes from Concerning Subud, J.G. Bennett, 1960, on advertising and black magic

“Magic is practiced currently in all civilized countries.  It must be said – without any wish to cause offence – that nearly all form of advertisement is a form of black magic.  It acts upon people to take away their own judgment and initiative and induce them to act under the dictates of the magician – that is, the advertising expert.”

24)  “Counter-Advertising and its Effect on Cyber-media”, Jennifer Burdock,

“Dr. Ewen Cameron began to experiment on patients to determine whether the human mind could essentially be ‘depatterned’, and inputted with entirely new information. This experiment would prove successful if it succeeded in altering the consciousness of the individual, thus making them especially susceptible to suggestion.”

25)  “Letter to the editor:  Propaganda Ministry Decried”, Edward Bernays, 1941

“There is a great difference between a propaganda ministry and men in government availing themselves of the advice and research of qualified experts in the field of morale, sociologists, pyschologists, adult educators, communication and public opinion technicians, so that their actions may be both efficient and democratic to strengthen national morale.”

26)  “Our Military:  Asset or Albatross”, Philip Berrigan, review of Planet Earth:  The Latest Weapon of War, by Sr. Rosalie Bertell

“…the military, especially the American military, is both mass killer and global polluter. The nuclear club - led by the U.S. – has killed, maimed or diseased 1.3 billion people since July 1945, with the first atmospheric test at Alamagordo, New Mexico.”

27)  “Fast-forward into Trouble” Bhutan gets television

“Four years ago, Bhutan, the fabled Himalayan Shangri-la, became the last nation on earth to introduce television. Suddenly a culture, barely changed in centuries, was bombarded by 46 cable channels. And all too soon came Bhutan's first crime wave - murder, fraud, drug offences.”

28)  “The Myth of a Free Press”, interview with Kristina Borjesson by Alexander M. Drake,

“Do you see a conflict of interest among journalists?

KB: Yes. You cannot serve a bottom line and the public interest at all times    without a conflict. The corporate interest is to serve its stockholders, not a nation, nor its citizens.”

29)  “Operation Mind Control”, Walter H. Bowart,

“Mind control is the most terrible imaginable crime because it is committed not against the body, but against the mind and the soul. Dr. Joost A. M. Meerloo expresses the attitude of the majority of psychologists in calling it “mind rape,” and warns that it poses a great “danger of destruction of the spirit” which can be ‘compared to the threat of total physical destruction . ..’ “

30)  “Mind Control and the Secret State”, Daniel Brandt,

‘In 1953, Dulles [former CIA director], speaking before a national meeting of Princeton alumni, distinguished two fronts in the then-current “battle for men’s minds”: a “first front” of mass indoctrination through censorship and propaganda, and a “second front” of individual “brainwashing” and “brain changing.” ‘

31)  “A Nation of Victims”, Renana Brooks,

“Poll after poll demonstrates that Bush's political agenda is out of step  with most Americans' core beliefs. Yet the public, their electoral resistance broken down by empty language and persuaded by personalization, is susceptible to Bush's most frequently used linguistic technique: negative framework. A negative framework is a pessimistic image of the world.”

32)  “The Mind Manipulators”, Susan Bryce,

“The underlying assumption about human psychology is that the public must be manipulated for its own good. Many advertising strategies involve covert methods to trick the consumer into believing their lives are incomplete and deficient without the promoted product; only through purchasing the commodity will the consumer's life be 'whole' or 'better' again.”

33)  “State of Surveillance”, Susan Bryce,

“It was Adolf Hitler who said: "What good fortune for the Government that people do not think." Our freedom tomorrow depends upon our vigilant thoughts today. We must consider the potential for the surreptitious elements of surveillance technology and identity numbering should they fall into the wrong hands.”

34)  “Totalitarian Technology”, Susan Bryce,

“The report warns of "an overall technological and decision drift towards world wide convergence of nearly all the technologies of political control", including identity recognition; denial; surveillance systems based on neural networks; new arrest and restraint methods and the emergence of so called ‘less lethal’ weapons.”

35)  “Will the Real Nazis Please Stand Up?” Susan Bryce,

“The UK government and US administration, along with NATO, used lies and untruths in order to win support for a bloody war in Yugoslavia. Such untruths are the same as propaganda, used by Hitler during World War Two. Representing key corporate and institutional interests, NATO waged a war of aggression, without UN sanction, against an independent and autonomous state.”

36)  “Slaves of our Desires”, Madeleine Bunting,

“Bernays was quite clear on this point - he took Uncle Siggy's line that democracy was impossible because people were irrational and ignorant. The best hope of social order was to have an "intelligent few" who were capable of ‘regimenting the public mind.’ “

37)  “Public Relations:  Hill&Knowlton, Robert Gray and the CIA”, Johan Carlisle,

“One boundary which has been blurred beyond recognition is that between "propaganda"-which conjures up unpleasant images of Goebbels-like fascists-and "public relations," a respectable white collar profession… PR has evolved into an increasingly refined art form of manipulation on behalf of whoever has the large amounts of money required to pay for it.”

38)  “Drought Inducement”, Clifford E. Carnicom,

“Recent analysis leads to the conclusion that the extensive and systematic aerosol operations that are being conducted without informed consent are aggravating, if not instigating, the elevated drought conditions that are now commonly being observed.”

39)  “A Direct Connection:  the Human Antenna (2)”, Clifford E. Carnicom,

“This is the third occasion in which a sensed detrimental mental effect occurred after performing a related or similar experiment.”

40)  “Celluloid Heroes” (parts one and two), David McGowan,

What better way to sell a war than on the nation's theater screens? According to an article in the Online Journal, "Many who have seen the film report leaving the theater feeling angry, itching to 'kick some ass.'" (2) Nothing like some emotionally-charged propaganda to fire up the people for a war of 'revenge' against a nation of people depicted as barbarians.”

41)  “Public Relations and Propaganda”, Wendy Chadwick,

“…in essence 'public relations people' are delivering a message for someone else, 'the client', whose doctrines they may or may not agree with; and they are using their expertise to help their client achieve their goals…So where lies the difference between what they are doing and what propagandists are doing?”

42)   “Low Intensity Warfare”, quotes from Noam Chomsky, September 11

“Terrorism is the use of coercive means aimed at civilian populations in an effort to achieve political, religious, or other aims.  That’s what the WTC attack was, a particularly horrifying terrorist crime. Terrorism, according to the official definitions, is simply part of state action, official doctrine…”

43)  “What Makes Mainstream Media Mainstream”, Noam Chomsky,

“The elite media set a framework within which others operate… The real mass media are basically trying to divert people.”

44)  “Media Control”, Noam Chomsky,

“Walter Lippman, who was the dean of American journalists...argued that what he called a "revolution in the art of democracy," could be used to "manufacture consent," that is, to bring about agreement on the part of the public for things that they didn't want by the new techniques of propaganda....”

45)  “Propaganda, American Style”, Noam Chomsky,

“As early as World War I, American historians offered themselves to President Woodrow Wilson to carry out a task they called "historical engineering," by which they meant designing the facts of history so that they would serve state policy.”

46) “Bush’s Christmas Terror Alert”, Michael Chossudovsky,

“Al Qaeda is once again identified in the December 21st statement as "the Outside Enemy", without of course mentioning that Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda is a creation of the CIA and is an "intelligence asset" controlled by the US.”

47)  “Washington’s NWO Weapons have the Ability to Trigger Climate Change”, Michael Chossudovsky,

“World renowned scientist Dr. Rosalie Bertell confirms that ‘US military scientists ... are working on weather systems as a potential weapon. The methods include the enhancing of storms and the diverting of vapor rivers in the Earth's atmosphere to produce targeted droughts or floods.’ “

48) “The Road map to Empire”, Chossudovsky and Ian Woods,

“Under the New World Order, discredited political leaders, who are the lackeys of powerful business interests are replaced by new political puppets. Republicans or Democrats - it makes no difference; this 'regular regime rotation' in a 'two party' system, plagued by corruption and conflict-of-interest, ensures continuity in America's Road-Map to Empire, while providing the illusion that Jeffersonian democracy continues to prevail.”

49)  “Citizen ‘Combatants’, Robot Warnings, and Endless ‘Wars’”, W. David Jenkins, “Is the Bush Administration the Fourth Reich?”  Jenkins and Sara DeHart,

“In regards to Nazi Germany the entire world agrees that the German people were misled by an organized propaganda campaign. Is this currently happening in the United States? Why is there such a disparity between what is reported in the European and American press? Why, with each new revelation from the coup d'etat in Venezuela to the new information on what the Bush administration knew about a potential al Qaeda strike prior to 9/11, do American citizens trust the word of the American media?”

50)  “Thought Control”, Stephen C. Clemons,

“One reason why think tanks are so attractive to moneyed political players is that the intellectuals who work for them seem more legitimate than corporate spokespeople or lobbyists. So part of what's being bought is credibility.”

51)  “U.S. Army Psychological Operations Personnel Worked at CNN”, Project Censored,

“One of the main tasks of this group of almost 1,200 soldiers and officers is to spread "selected information". The propaganda group was involved in the Gulf war, the war in Bosnia and the crisis in Kosovo.”

52)  “U.S. Report tells of Brave New World”, Nathan Cochrane,

“People may download their consciousnesses into computers or other bodies even on the other side of the solar system, or participate in a giant "hive mind", a network of intelligences connected through ultra-fast communications networks. ‘With knowledge no longer encapsulated in individuals, the distinction between individuals and the entirety of humanity would blur’…”

53)  “The Hidden Face of Terrorism”, Paul David Collins,

The most significant form of terrorism, by a large measure, is state terrorism--that is, "terrorizing the whole population through systematic actions carried out by the forces of the state". Second, such terrorism is an essential part of a "government-imposed sociopolitical project" designed for the needs of the privileged.”

54) “Behavioral Enslavement”, Keidi Obi Awadu, The Conscious Rasta,

"Ceremonial magic is the ancient art of invoking and controlling spirits by a scientific application of certain formulae. A magician, enveloped in sanctified vestments and carrying a wand inscribed with hieroglyphic figures, could by the power vested in certain words and symbols control the invisible inhabitants of the elements and of the astral world. While the elaborate ceremonial magic of antiquity was not necessarily evil, there arose from its perversion several false schools of sorcery, or black magic…MANLY P. HALL

55)  “Symbols of Power and Advancement”, Keidi Obi Awadu, The Conscious Rasta,

“In contemporary society the ruling class, most often belonging to secret societies that have preserved the legacy of the usurping priestcrafts, utilizes the power of symbol manipulation and cultural reprogramming to maintain their control over the perceptions and activities of the citizenry, who is most often reduced to beastly natures; distracted and satiated with low-order gratification.”

56)  “An Organic Reconsideration of U.S. history and major ‘conspiracy theories’ of the past 40 years…”,

“What makes you think you actually KNOW what happened on those planes? All four were obliterated, along with everyone on board, remember? No crime scene, no direct evidence, no recognizable remains, no witnesses whatsoever -- it's a blank canvas. How convenient for any party intent on launching a new era of global imperialism, and willing to spin this tragedy into a viable excuse. Indeed, all of the attack's consequences are far better explained by this agenda than by Bin Laden's purported death wish. Those presuming to examine this matter, i.e. ALL OF US, need to recognize that such trickery is a timeless specialty of governments.

57) “Geographic Illusion Systems”, Helen Couclelis, [Bennis&Mitroff]

“In their book entitled The Unreality Industry, Mitroff and Bennis (1989) define two kinds of unreality: Unreality One or Artificial Reality makes the unreal look so real that we cannot tell the difference between the two. Unreality Two or Pseudo Reality, on the other hand, makes the unreal so attractive that we no longer care about reality.”

58)  “The British Rascists behind America’s School Reforms/Tavistock Mass-Murderers are brainwashing your children”, Scott Thompson & Jeff Steinberg,

“At the center of its decades-long fight is its battle to wipe out the view of man as born in the image of the Creator, in the unique sense that each individual is endowed with the potential for creative reason. The “paradigm shift'' that Tavistock seeks would reduce all men to beasts, easily controllable by the oligarchy and their anointed psychological shock troops, deployed through the extended Tavistock network.”

59)  “Shaping the Public Good”, David Cromwell & Mia Jarlov,

“As Erich Fromm warned, our perceptions have thereby been moulded to regard the world as 'one great object for our appetite, a big apple, a big bottle, a big breast; we are the sucklers, the eternally expectant ones, the hopeful ones - and the eternally disappointed  ones.' Therein lies the necessary basis for the rampant success of global consumer capitalism.”

60)  “The Media IS Big Business”,,

“I view the output of established media as a slurry of manure and toxic waste; a propaganda product that requires heavy analysis and context fitting in order to recover the 5%-10% of useful information contained within an obfuscated mess.”

61)  “Media Literacy Strategies for Gender Equity”, Peter Davison,

“Anti-social behaviour, poor self esteem and hopeless futures for young people are ever present realities in our schools. Many, though not all, of the stories produced by the media are based on sexism that become the lies that bind both women and men to a limited potential. From this perspective I join those who advocate mandatory media literacy education at all levels in our education system.”

62)  “Separation Perfected”, chapter one, The Society of the Spectacle, Guy Debord,

“But certainly for the present age, which prefers the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality, the appearance to the essence... illusion only is sacred, truth profane. Nay, sacredness is held to be enhanced in proportion as truth decreases and illusion increases, so that the highest degree of illusion comes to be the highest degree of sacredness.”

63)  “Information Control for Social Manipulation”, David B. Deserano,

“Corporations and the US government have spent many decades and hundreds of billions of dollars researching how best to affect the American people…Over long periods of time, recurring imagery has a built-up effect on the viewer which allows for unconsciously conceived notions of truth to manifest as though from nowhere …Naturally, then, whomever has control over the mediums of communication has a tremendous amount of power over the populations who consume it.”

64)    “Operation Pearl”, Prof. A.K. Dewdney, [this article is a comprehensive scientific hypothesis for what really happened on 9-11]

“It is possible to produce the appearance of a terrorist attack on the United States by means that do not employ terrorists, as such, but by the simple substitution of one aircraft for another, particularly when the transponders of the aircraft involved are turned off. The only people who need to be deceived by such an operation are the radar operators at air traffic control (ATC) centers. …Under the Operation Pearl scenario, the passengers of all four flights died in an aerial explosion over Shanksville, PA and the remaining three airliners are at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.”

65)  Disinfopedia Main Page,,

Welcome to Disinfopedia, a collaborative project to produce a directory of public relations firms, think tanks, industry-funded organizations and industry-friendly experts that work to influence public opinion and public policy on behalf of corporations, governments and special interests.”

66)  Directed Energy Mind Control,

“The radiation pockets created by directed energy beams can be engineered to contain sound waves, messages, heat stress, pressure stress, simulated forms of electromagnetic radiation, telepathic images, holographic and virtual reality simulations. For instance, two radio frequency beams which may have harmless radio frequency properties separately when combined at an intersection point may have harmful mixing radio frequency properties.”

67)  “Mind Control Slavery and the NOW”, Uri Dowbenko,

"The Germans under the Nazi government began to do serious scientific research into trauma-based mind control," write Fritz Springmeier and Cisco Wheeler in their book, The Illuminati Formula used to create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave. "Under the auspices of the Kaiser Wilhelm Medical Institute in Berlin, Josef Mengele conducted mind-control research on thousands of twins and thousands of other hapless victims.

68)  “The Social Enemy Within”, Fintan Dunne,

The primal motivation behind all paranoia is fear of death itself. The inherent dualism of life presents contradictions between day and night, left and right, male and female etc. Our psyche is most aware of the dualism ME and NOT ME. Followed by: LIFE and NOT LIFE.”

69)  “Masked and Anonymous:  Bob Dylan’s Elegy for a lost America” [film]

“Not ten minutes after the opening credits I could see why the film had been marked for assassination by big newspaper media critics…are the villains of the piece! "Masked and Anonymous" portrays the reporters who wrote the bad reviews as people who have to wear ankle monitors. Editors hold the keys that control them. Who owns the editors is pretty clear, too.”

70)  “The Military-Industrial Complex Speech” (1961), Dwight D. Eisenhower,

“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

71)  “The Electronic Control of Human Economic Life:  The Orwellian Web”,

“Indications are that a global electronic web will soon allow a few financial institutions in each country to monitor and control the flow of most economic transactions. IF THIS TREND REMAINS UNCHECKED -- WITH NO ADEQUATE LEGISLATION, NO ADEQUATE PRIVACY PROTECTION, AND NO ADEQUATE SEPARATION OF FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL POWERS -- THE MONEY TRUST WILL BE ABLE TO DOMINATE AND CONTROL ALMOST EVERY ASPECT OF HUMAN ECONOMIC LIFE.”

72) “Dr. Emoto’s Hidden Messages in Water”, [“the act of speaking words has the power to change the world”]

“The result was that "thank you" formed beautiful hexagonal crystals and the water exposed to "fool" produced malformed crystals similar to water exposed to heavy-metal music. Many metaphysicians and scientific researchers have concluded that our words contain energies that vibrate at different frequencies.”

73)  “The Establishment Creates Hitler…”,

“Flick, like Thyssen, financed the Nazis to maintain their private armies called Schutzstaffel (S.S. or Black Shirts) and Sturmabteilung (S.A., storm troops or Brown Shirts). The Flick-Harriman partnership was directly supervised by Prescott Bush, President Bush's father, and by George Walker, President Bush's grandfather.”

74)  “All-Consuming Images:  The Politics of Style in Contemporary Culture”, Stuart Ewen,

“In our contemporary consumer culture, we have a preoccupation with the appearance and style of the objects around us - we are surrounded by carefully stylized commodities. And why not? The style of an object is meant to mean something: to symbolize an ideal and reflect the values of the user, viewer, or purchaser. The value we place on the style of an object is equal to or greater than the value we place on its function.

75)  “Captains of Consciousness:  Advertising and the Social Roots of Consumer Culture”, Stuart Ewen,

"While agreeing that 'human nature is more difficult to control than material culture.' ad men spoke in specific terms of 'human instincts' which if properly understood could induce people 'to buy a given product if it was scientifically presented. If advertising copy could appeal to the right instincts, the urge to buy would surely be excited.'"

76)  “Springing into Spin:  The History of PR”, David Barsamian interviews Stuart Ewen,

“Do you see a legitimacy for public relations?” “I think the history of public relations is a primarily illegitimate one. Most of it is about packaging reality in a way that is designed to benefit powerful clients.”

77)  “An Interview with Stuart Ewen:  Has powerful public relations machines turned us into a nation of consumer slaves?”

“When Bernays entered the scene during the First World War, he did so as a farsighted architect of modern propaganda technique who helped to consolidate a fateful marriage between theories of mass psychology and schemes of corporate and political persuasion.  With Bernays, factual argument was replaced by the chronic appeals to irrational life that mark our culture. Dangerous? Yes and no. His influence on Nazi propaganda minister, Josef Goebbels, can not be ignored.”

78)  “Stuart Ewen talks about his history of hype, the public relations industry, saving the planet, etc”,

PR was originally a tool for damage control or crisis management. If a company committed a wrongdoing or had some other disaster on its hands, it would employ PR defensively to save face. Managing image perception (or "manufacturing consent," to use the words of PR pioneer/pollster Walter Lippmann) soon became a much more active process. Now crisis management is but a small subset of the ever-expanding field of public relations”

79)  “Visiting Edward Bernays”, Stuart Ewen,

“The swift steps I'd heard were those of Edward L. Bernays, moving toward the threshold of his one-hundredth year. Despite years of pondering him as a shrewd and cynical manipulator of public consciousness, I was immediately entranced. His physical countenance reminded me of pictures I had seen of an aged Albert Einstein.”

80)  “The Awesome Destructive Power of the Corporate Media”, Glen Ford and Peter Campbell,

“It is no longer possible to view commercial news media as mere servants of the ruling rich -- they are full members of the presiding corporate pantheon. General media consolidation has created an integrated mass communications system that is both objectively and self-consciously at one with the Citibanks and ExxonMobils of the world.”

81)  “Designer Diseases:  AIDS as Biological and Psychological Warfare”, Waves Forrest,

“At a House Appropriations hearing in 1969, the Defense Department's Biological Warfare (BW) division requested funds to develop through gene-splicing a new disease that would both resist and break down a victim's immune system…AIDS appeared within the requested time frame, and has the exact characteristics specified…The incidence of AIDS infections in Africa coincides exactly with the locations of the W.H.O. smallpox vaccination program in the mid-1970's.”

82)  “Bush Administration ‘Distorts Science’”, Maggie Fox,

“The report said there had been a systematic effort to manipulate the government's supposedly independent scientific advisory system ‘to prevent the appearance of advice that might run counter to the administration's political agenda.’ “

83)  “Assertions about Mass-media”,  Todd Gitlin and Herbert Schiller,

“It is not a matter of people being dupes, informational or cultural. It is that human beings are not equipped to deal with a pervasive disinformation system -- administered from the commandposts of the social order -- that assaults the senses through all cultural forms and channels."

84)  “Intelligence for Operatives”, GNN,

“Dr. William Swee.   Co-developed BNCT. Worked in 1933 and 1934 in Nazi Germany, observed sterilization of unwitting epileptics by aiming radiation at their genitals from under a desk they were told to sit at, yet though he called this "outrageous behavior," he never revealed this to war crimes investigators.”

85)  “The Search for the Manchurian Candidate”, John Marks,

“In September 1950, the Miami News published an article by Edward Hunter titled " 'Brain-Washing' Tactics Force Chinese into Ranks of Communist Party." It was the first printed use in any language of the term "brainwashing," which quickly became a stock phrase in Cold War headlines. Hunter, a CIA propaganda operator who worked under cover as a journalist, turned out a steady stream of books and articles on the subject.”

86)  “The ‘War on Drugs’ is Psychological Warfare”, Christopher Simpson,

“And one of the things that he [Goebels] figured out was that the most effective means of repression is repression that a person puts on himself or herself. That even in a country like Nazi Germany - even in the country with that level of brutality and hatred and violence - that all of the SS men could not keep ordinary German people down unless ordinary German people took in this ideology of Nazism and believed it themselves. So Goebels worked out some ways to encourage this happening.”

87)    “Operation Paperclip”, GNN, Christopher Simpson,

“The origins of psychological warfare were in Nazi Germany and in the Nazi ideology they had something called weltanshauungskrieg, which means world view warfare; and it was - the idea for them was imposing the Nazi world view on the countries that they had occupied. The Americans picked up this idea, created an American version of it, and called that psychological warfare.”

88)  “The Most Dangerous Game” GNN, Sidney Weinstein,

“…if you use massive shock treatment…their mind - if you want to think of it in terms of a spirit, or soul - is gone. You just have a physiological preparation which can be fed, which can urinate and defecate, but an ability to motivate, to think, to act in any kind of purposeful fashion is wiped out. So basically what Cameron was trying to do was to turn the mind, turn the brain into a tabula rasa, something that he could etch his own programming onto.”

89)  “Government:  the Unofficial Justification”, “Black Magic, the Authoritarian Principle, is a meme that profoundly distorts its victims' view of the world…”,

“…governments are really trying to impersonate God — the supreme authority 40.  So as to achieve its emotional and intellectual fraud, the statist meme 41 does much more than just divert existing emotions from their rightful targets: it severely distorts the way infected people view the world, to begin with. It must bypass the natural defense system of the human mind, its immunity system: reason, the bullshit detector. And it must take constantly renewed measures to keep this defense system disabled

91)  “Cosmic deception:  Let the Citizen Beware”, Dr. Stephen Greer, [faked alien invasion scenario]

“This 5 trillion dollar industry - energy and transportation - is currently highly centralized, metered and lucrative…As immense as that game is, there is a bigger one: Control through fear. As Wernher von Braun related to Dr. Carol Rosin, his spokesperson for the last 4 years of his life, a maniacal machine - the military, industrial, intelligence, laboratory complex - would go from Cold War, to Rogue Nations, to Global Terrorism (the stage we find ourselves at today), to the ultimate trump card: A hoaxed threat from space.”

92)  “Thinking Unthinkable Thoughts:  Theologian Charges Whitehouse Complicity in 9/11 Attacks”, David Ray Griffin, interviewed by Nick Welsh,

“According to Griffin, a case can be made that the Bush administration arranged the attack, or allowed it to happen. He is aware that he may be dismissed as a conspiracy nut, but given the “transcendent importance” of the issue, Griffin is willing to assume that risk and has taken to repeating Michael Moore’s line on the subject: “Personally, I’m not into conspiracy theories except those that are true.”

93)  “Pentagon Propaganda Machine”, Deni Gros,

“The show's producers include Jerry Bruckheimer, who did such pro-military movies as "Black Hawk Down" and "Top Gun." Bruckheimer claims that the show is not a propaganda vehicle for the military; but critics feel otherwise, saying the show will (according to Lorraine Demi of the Committee Opposed to Militarism and the Draft) "further blur the line between entertainment and news and serve as a military info-mercial."

94)  “Memetics”, Jack Hardy,

“Memes seem to have an arc of existence defying simple replicative models. Indeed, I daresay many memes lie dormant awaiting resurgence, as might forgotten gods that can spread like wildfire. Let’s say a meme like Nazism could be re-established which is why many are so keen to quash it.”

95)  “Corporate Personhood Challenged”, Thom Hartmann,

“It was back in 1886 that a Supreme Court decision (Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad Company) ostensibly led to corporate personhood and free speech rights, thereby guaranteeing protections under the 1st and 14th amendments. However, according to Thom Hartmann, the relatively mundane court case never actually granted these personhood rights to corporations…”

96) “The Power of our Point of View:  Older and Younger Cultures”, chapter from The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight, Thom Hartmann [television as a drug]

“…imagine a 'drug' that fewer than even five percent of Americans could walk away from for a month at a time without discomfort. Such a drug, by the definitions of addiction, would be the most powerfully addictive drug ever developed…this drug would also have to stabilize people's moods…Such a 'drug' exists. Far more seductive than opium, infinitely more effective at shaping behaviour and expectations than alcohol, and used for more minutes every day than tobacco, our culture's most pervasive and most insidious 'drugging agent' is television.”

97) “A Review of Thom Hartmann’s Unequal Protection:  The Rise of Corporate Dominance and the Theft of Human Rights”, Richard W. Behan,

“Today, the First Amendment protects the right of corporations-as-persons to finance political campaigns and to employ lobbyists, who then specify and redeem the incurred obligations. Democracy has been transformed into a crypto-plutocracy, and public policy is no longer crafted to serve the American people at large. It is shaped instead to maintain, protect, enhance or create opportunities for corporate profit.”

98) “The Big Picture:  Secretly Altering the Environment”, Diane Harvey,

“What all the evidence is slowly but surely adding up to is a vast project, carried out in secret, and consisting of a multitude of sub-projects, whose purpose is to radically alter, at the very least, the atmospheric environment.”

99)  “The Dire Straits Chronicles”, Diane Harvey,

“Freedom is just a word people have been flattering themselves with, on the drive to the mall to buy whatever trinkets television told them to buy for their "lifestyle" this year. Freedom is a wonderful idea, but it died out somewhere along the way, from a general lack of enthusiasm for its rigorous and often positively Spartan requirements.”

100) “Global Totalitarianism and the Death of Nature”, Diane Harvey,

“Consider the ramifications if the death of nature is a carefully planned, well thought-out and deliberate act by the faceless rulers of Earth. The forces of global totalitarianism may actually believe they can replace all natural forms of life with man-made simulations. We need only call to mind a portion of the vast array of recent advances in the scientific realm to understand the direction of the juggernaut.”

101) “Something is Frighteningly Wrong with the American People Now”, Diane Harvey, speech, Wright-Patterson AF Base, June 2001

“‘They’, whoever they are, are dragging us, wherever they are going, by force. We aren't being asked for our cooperation, or for our votes.  This means that the very word ''government" is now effectively meaningless. WHAT government? Where is it? Who is it? Can we say we know the first thing about who is in fact actually running our country? No. And this what lies at the very bottom of all of our very justifiable fears.”

102)  Links for Diane Harvey articles,

“Truth always was a moving target, from the strictly human perspective of facts, and on the Internet it moves much faster than ever. Yet through this high-speed process of continually accepting and discarding information, we are developing new forms of perceptual survival skills. This compulsory refining of the discriminative faculty constitutes one of the greatest underlying values of the net.”

103)  “The Global Media:  An Interview with Edward S. Herman and Robert W. McChesney”, David Patterson,

“The most important changes over the past several decades have been corporate capitalism’s increasingly global perspective and reach…An increase in the centralization of economic power…at the same time has been matched by an increasing competition between the media giants, and by their willingness to attack rivals by crossing product lines, vertically integrating, and invading one another’s territories.”

104)  “Propaganda System Number One:  from Diem and Arbenz to Milosevic”, Edward S. Herman,

“The main characteristic of the U.S. model is that, while offering diversity on many subjects, on core issues…the media can be relied on to expound and propagandize what would be called a "party line" if done in China.”

105)  “Word Tricks and Propaganda”, Edward Herman,

“The examples below will show how story framing and word usage are essentially two aspects of a single process…the media claim to be seeking truth and serving the public (not corporate and elite) interest. That should be the standard by which we evaluate and criticize them as we seek to shrink the immense gap between their own proclaimed ideal and actual performance.”

106)    “Now is Our Time!”, Jim Hightower, GNN,

“The original Greek word "idiotes" referred to people who might have had a high IQ, but were so self-involved that they focused exclusively on their own life and were both ignorant of and uncaring about public concerns and the common good.”

107)  excerpt on propaganda, from Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler

“The function of propaganda does not lie in the scientific training of the individual,  but…must be aimed at the emotions and only to a very limited degree at the so-called intellect...The more modest its intellectual ballast, the more exclusively it takes into consideration the emotions of the masses, the more effective it will be…”

108)  “Debunking Conspiracy Theories:  Paranoid Fantasies about 9/11 Detract from Real Issues”, Gerard Holmgren,

“That's right! If you are killed by an Arab terrorist in NY, your DNA will be destroyed by such temperatures. But if you are killed by an Arab terrorist in Washington DC, your DNA will be so robust that it can survive temperatures which completely vapourize a 65 ton aircraft.”

109)  “Propaganda Under a Dictatorship”, chapter, Brave New World Revisited, Aldous Huxley

‘Hitler’s dictatorship’, he said, ‘differed in one fundamental point from all its predecessors in history.  It was the first dictatorship in the present period of modern technical development, a dictatorship which made complete use of all technical means for the domination of its own country.  Through technical devices like the radio and the loud-speaker, eighty million people were deprived of independent thought.  It was thereby possible to subject them to the will of one man.”

110)  “How Exposure to Mobile phone base-station Radiation can adversely affect humans”, G. J. Hyland,

“…living organisms.  For the latter, in consequence of their vitality, are themselves electromagnetic instruments of great and exquisite sensitivity, and thereby vulnerable to interference by weak external electromagnetic fields whose frequencies are close to those found in the alive organism.

111)   World Institute and Radio-eugenics, David Icke,

“ ‘Perhaps the beneficial use of atomic energy (outside its uses in medicine) is a matter of selecting the right types and dosages (frequency and duration) of irradiation, plus the controlling influence of a mental guiding field. This latter would be a kind of psychokinetic effect on the level of biological causation.’ “(Reiser, p. 533)

112)  Impropaganda Review, Edward Bernays,

“…it is Bernays himself who invented the quintessential tool of deceptive propaganda -- the "front group..."This was a pioneering move that is common today in the promotion of public causes--a prestigious sponsoring committee," notes PR industry historian Scott Cutlip.

113)  The Bias of Communication, Harold Innis (quotes)

“Innis argued that any form of communication possessed a bias; by its nature it was most adept at reducing signaling time and controlling space or strengthening collective memory and consciousness and controlling time. This bias hardened into a monopoly when groups came to control the form of communication and to identify their interests, priestly or political, with its capacity.” (p. 167)

114)  “Through the Lens of Educational Technology,” H. Innis,

“One of Innis' most profound contributions concerned the theory of administrating empires and religion, or as Innis termed it, attempts to control time and space.  Differing from Emmanuel Kant's work which tied everything to a time and a place, Innis theorized that in many matters of communications, history repeatedly illustrated that communications were largely efforts to control time and space.  Time in the sense of a reliable calendar, and space being an area of land or water between separate points.”

115)  The Seeds of Deception, Jeffrey Smith [genetic engineering] (book outline)

“The message was part of a master plan that had been crafted by corporations determined to control the world’s food supply… To implement their strategy, the biotech companies needed to control the seeds—so they went on a buying spree, taking possession of about 23 percent of the world’s seed companies.”

116)  “Search Engines and the History of Public Relations”, Greg Jarboe,

“Lee described himself as a "physician to corporate bodies”… Bernays, on the other hand, had a grander vision.  He tried to put public relations on a scientific footing, often applying lessons he had learned from his uncle, Sigmund Freud… He applied of his uncle’s concept of "mass psychology" to sell bacon, cigarettes and soap.  He also staged "overt acts" (what would now be called "media events") to awaken apparently subconscious feelings.”

117)  “Brain Zapping”(two), Jason Jeffrey,

“This type of interference with the minds of people is closely related to what is termed ‘black magic’… The writer William Burroughs spent his whole life examining the human condition, concluding a mechanism of control exists in the universe blinding people to their true nature. In Mind War/The Adding Machine, Burroughs writes of the creation of a state of fear dominated by elitists who manipulate powerful psychic forces:  ‘At the top [of the elitist state] would be a theocracy trained in psychic control techniques implemented by computerised electronic devices that would render opposition psychologically impossible.’”

118)  “Brain Zapping”(one), Jason Jeffrey,

“The future presented by Metz and Kievit sounds like a mixture of George Orwell’s 1984 and the recent movie The Matrix. Individuals unwilling to go along with the revolutionary changes are ‘identified using comprehensive inter-agency integrated databases.’ They will then be ‘categorized’ and ‘sophisticated computerized personality simulations’ will be used ‘to develop, tailor and focus psychological campaigns for [ie. against] each.’ “

119)  Kalle Lasn interview by Grant Rosenberg,

“In the book you talk about how it is unavoidable to interact in some way with corporations. You even drive a Toyota. You are right; there is no way to completely isolate yourself and still be a part of society enough to change it.  There are lots of people who confront me on this and say, "Why don’t you walk your talk?" Every one of us is an incredible contradiction. We are all caught in this post-modern hall of mirrors…What is my choice? That I’m not going to publish my book because I refuse to give it to Rupert Murdoch? I think you have to get used to the fact that we are walking, talking contradictions, all of us.”

120)  “What Neil Postman has to say”, Nancy Kaplan,

“And so two opposing world-views -- the technological and the traditional -- coexisted in uneasy tension. The technological was the stronger, of course, but the traditional was there -- still functional, still exerting influence, still too much alive to ignore. This is what we find documented not only in Mark Twain but in the poetry of Walt Whitman, the speeches of Abraham Lincoln, the prose of Thoreau, the philosophy of Emerson, the novels of Hawthorne and Melville, and, most vividly of all, in Alexis de Tocqueville's monumental Democracy in America…With the rise of Technopoly, one of those thought-worlds disappears. Technopoly eliminates alternatives to itself in precisely the way Aldous Huxley outlined in Brave New World. It does not make them illegal. It does not make them immoral. It does not even make them unpopular. It makes them invisible and therefore irrelevant.”

121)  “We are television”, Todd Kappelman,

“On an average evening more than eighty million people would be watching television and thirty million of those would be viewing the same program. In reality, each individual has been manipulated into a group activity,  mechanically lured into the same identical viewing experience of their peers, yet isolated from all spheres of influence outside of the staged television performance. He [Mander] believes that this phenomenon, which he calls the unification of experience, is a strategic tactic created and skillfully used by the advertising industry to maneuver people into a controlled environment where they can be indoctrinated with the gospel of consumerism.”

122)  Keith, Jim, “Experiments into Remote Mind Control”,

“One of the strangest - and most ominous -episodes in the history of electromagnetic irradiation research is the construction of the network of Ground Wave Emergency Network (GWEN) towers, in the 1980s… ‘GWEN is a superb system, in combination with cyclotron resonance, for producing behavioural alterations in the civilian population. The average strength of the steady geomagnetic field varies from place to place across the United States. Therefore, if one wished to resonate a specific ion in living things in a specific locality, one would require a specific frequency for that  location. The spacing of GWEN transmitters 200 mile apart across the United States would allow such specific frequencies to be 'tailored' to the geomagnetic-field strength in each GWEN area.’ [Becker]”

123)  “The Junk Science of George W. Bush”, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.,

“…last November the EPA cut a private deal with a pesticide manufacturer to take over federal studies of a pesticide it manufactures. Atrazine is the most heavily utilized weedkiller in America. First approved in 1958, by the 1980s it had been identified as a potential carcinogen associated with high incidencesof prostate cancer among workers at manufacturing facilities.”

124)    “You are being lied to:  The Disinformation Guide to Media Distortion, Historical Whitewashes and Cultural Myths”, Russ Kick (ed.),

“…sinister ideas of media domination and corporations growing big enough to control economies have filtered right through to the publishing industry.  The vogue these days is for books that claim to give the inside truth on the shenanigans of big businesses and governments.”

125)  “Widow’s Bush Treason Suit Vanishes In Blink of Media Eye”, W. David Kubiak,

“The suit text…concludes that ‘compelling evidence will be presented in this case through discovery, subpoena power, and testimony [that] Defendants failed to act and prevent 9/11 knowing the attacks would lead to an 'International War on Terror' which would benefit Defendants both financially and politically.’ “

126)  “The Aquarian Conspiracy”, Lyndon LaRouche,

“Aldous Huxley, along with his brother Julian, was tutored at Oxford by H.G. Wells, the head of British foreign intelligence during World War I…Wells's popular writings (Time Machine, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and so forth), and those of his proteges Aldous Huxley (Brave New World) and George Orwell (1984 and Animal Farm), were written as ‘mass appeal’ organizing documents on behalf of one-world order."

127)  “Mass Murder, Inc.”, Lyndon LaRouche, Executive Intelligence Review

“By the early 1960's, Emery, together with the chairman of Tavistock's governing council, Dr. Eric Trist, was giving lectures to select audiences at Tavistock on methods to brainwash entire societies. In this new age of communications, they said, a series of short, universal shocks would destabilise a targeted population, plunging it into a form of "shell shock", a mass neurosis.”

128)  “G.W. Bush on 9/11 Conspiracy Theories”, Robert Lederman,

“The official story as told by the Bush administration and the

corporate media is constructed of "evidence" the government frankly admits would not be admissible in any court of law. If anything, the Bush administrations' version of events is itself a very weakly constructed "conspiracy theory" challenged at every turn by an enormous amount of exculpatory evidence, much of it from the Bush administration itself.”

129)  “Nazis Plotted Post WW2 Return to Power;  Pioneer Fund and U.S. Army tried to create a Master Race”, Robert Lederman,

“Many early genetic researchers believed that race-mixing would damage the white race's "germ plasm"- a human component that early scientists believed carried a race's hereditary traits. Leaders in Nazi Germany fervently embraced such eugenic theories...The pilot procreation plan was endorsed by an array of high-ranking military and political leaders, including Mr. Woodring, one of President Roosevelt's top aides. Moreover, many U.S. states had laws in that era authorizing the sterilization of mentally retarded people”

130)  Television… A more subtle & sophisticated propaganda mind-control machine than any sci-fi writer has been able to imagine…the precision with which its potential for enslavement is being exploited." letter,

“…the "public cult" is guided dynamically by hypnotic television… a more subtle & sophisticated propaganda mind-control machine than any sci-fi writer has been able to imagine.  Not the medium so much, but how it is used, the precision with which its potential for enslavement is being exploited.”

131) “The Matrix of Ignorance:  Unplugging the Sixty Nine Percent”, Gary Leupp,

“National Geographic reports that 85% of young Americans (18-24) cannot identify Iraq, Afghanistan or Israel on an unmarked map. 56% cannot find the Indian subcontinent, dangling there so conspicuously into none other than the Indian Ocean. Only 19% can name four countries that acknowledge having nuclear weapons. Fortunately, a whopping 70% can identify the Pacific Ocean, but that's probably just because it's the biggest thing on the planet.”

132)  “Propaganda in a Democracy”, Dennis Lewis,

“ ‘The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society,’ said Bernays, who, perhaps appropriately, is the great grandson of Freud. ‘Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.’ “

133)  “What is the CIA?”  “…intelligence has largely made way for propaganda”

“Originally created to gather technical and military data from foreign political adversaries, the CIA evolved into an active tool for sabotage and destruction of any real or imaginary non-US interests… since the communist arch-enemy (the Agency's only raison d'être) disappeared, intelligence has largely made way for propagandathe media are used and abused in the most stunning ways, by planting false stories, forcing confessions, and creating a global terror climate. What happened on September 11th is a perfect example of CIA intelligence creativity.”

134)  “Brainwashing the World:  Exposing Establishment Propaganda and Thought Control”, Dr. Norman Livergood,

“The puppet Bush regime, in collusion with the subordinate Blair regime in Britain, are using new, aggressive forms of brainwashing to change the very way people worldwide think and feel…The way in which the Bush junta is conducting itself is an interesting brainwashing technique in itself.”

135)  “The Corporate Domination of American Culture and Politics”, Dr. Norman Livergood,

“To placate the masses of unthinking Americans, the corporations absolutely must maintain the appearance of participating in — and even protecting — the cherished American myth of “Democracy”. To create such mass-illusion on a national scale is a real challenge. But so far, they’ve succeeded spectacularly. They do it through the mass-media.   The corporate plutocracy owns the mass-media, and they’ve been consolidating that ownership for over 20 years. That means everything you see and hear in the mass-media is controlled by fewer and fewer people. Every time you hear about the latest media mega-merger you’re hearing about the further reinforcement of what is already the world’s greatest propaganda machine.”

136)  “The Necessity for Enlightened Thinking”, Dr. Norman Livergood,

“It's a shock when we realize: most people living in Nazi Germany didn't see the tyranny! They thought it was the best time of their lives! How could Americans now possibly be living under a creeping dictatorship and not know it? And how could we not only not see a police state condition but actually think we're living in complete freedom?  Because most of us don't WANT to know what's going on. We've lost the ability to think critically about political, economic, and social dangers confronting us.”

137)  “Leo Strauss’ Philosophy of Deception”, Jim Lobe,

“Strauss's idea of hidden meaning, "alerts one to the possibility that political life may be closely linked to deception. Indeed, it suggests that deception is the norm in political life, and the hope, to say nothing of the expectation, of establishing a politics that can dispense with it is the exception."

138)  Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, Charles Mackay, 1841, (volume one, “national delusions”)

“Money, again, has often been a cause of the delusion of multitudes.  Sober nations have all at once become desperate gamblers, and risked almost their existence upon the turn of a piece of paper.  To trace the history of the most prominent of these delusions is the object of the present pages.  Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.”

139)  “The Substance of Style:  How the Rise of Aesthetic Value is Remaking Commerce, Culture, and Consciousness”, Steve MacLaughlin,

“…when ‘design is everywhere, and everywhere is now designed’ whoever determines look and feel controls a great deal of economic and personal value.’ “

140)  “The GOP and the Nazis”, Steve Madsen,

“No reasonable historian would deny that Hitler's speechmaking abilities were far ahead of the syllable-challenged Bush's. Contrasting the policies of Bush and Hitler following terrorist attacks in their countries is a legitimate area for historical comparative analysis. Although Hitler was behind the burning of the Reichstag, he and Bush virtually tore up their respective constitutions and began viciously denouncing their political enemies. Both Bush and Hitler failed in every business venture they started, until, of course, they became leaders of their countries in questionable elections.”

141)  In the Absence of the Sacred, Jerry Mander, book review,

“The trouble with television is not a matter of content, as the current debate suggests, it goes deeper than that. Whether one watches children's programming on public television or violent, late-night crime dramas, the effects are essentially the same, Mander said: the medium itself acts a visual intoxicant, entrancing the viewer and thereby replacing other forms of knowledge with the imagery of its programmers. Television's effects on young children are especially deleterious…”

142)  In the Absence of the Sacred, Mander and Food of the Gods, McKenna, reviews,

“The great strength of Mander's book rests in his multi-level critique of technology. His examination of specific technologies (such as biotechnology, computers, and even nano-technology) and megatechnology (all-pervasive, computer-driven, globally encircling technology) is useful, but his real genius lies in his relentless attack against "technological idealism," --- the belief that ultimately technology will be able to save us and make our lives better.”

143)    Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television, Jerry Mander, excerpts,

“…for most people sitting at home viewing the news, there is no way at all to know what is true or correct and what is not…it becomes possible for news to exist only within the media and nowhere in the real world. That was the situation that Orwell posited in 1984With information confined to the media, totally separated from the context of time and place, the creation of reality is as simple as feeding it directly into our heads... Any evening’s news is filled with information that we can’t possibly know is true. How could we know? The only way to know for sure if something happened is to be present at the time and in the place of the event.  If not, you are taking the information on faith.”

144)    “Undue Influence”, notes on Jerry Mander,

"Technological evolution is leading to something new: a worldwide, interlocked, monolithic, technical-political web of unprecedented negative proportions”

145)    “Unplug your Brain”, Jerry Mander,

“In the US, television is the main thing people do. It's replaced community life, family life, culture. It has replaced the environment. In fact, it has become the environment that people interact with every day. It has become the culture, too-and I'm not talking about so-called popular culture, which sounds, somehow, democratic. This expresses corporate culture, and damned few corporations at that.”

146)    “Language of Persuasion”, Randal Marlin,

“A compact, frequently reproduced list of "tricks of the trade" was furnished in 1939 by the New York-based Institute for Propaganda Analysis. In addition to name-calling, there are six common tricks, examined below…”

147)    “Mass-media Brainwashing in America”,

“…on February 14, 2003 a crooked judge reversed the jury, actually issuing a ruling that it is legal for the media to deliberately lie and distort the news on a television broadcast…to back up his crooked ruling, the appeals court judge said there is no FCC rule or regulation that specifically makes it illegal to mislead, distort, or falsify the news.   There you have it, folks! Mass-media deception in your face.  It can’t get more blatant than that!”

148)    Master Mind Explorer,

“Michael Parenti examines the subtle but profound ways in which the media influence and manipulate the public's perception of reality…and clearly depicts the news media as a controlling institution of the American capitalist system, an institution that serves the interests of the rich and powerful while appearing to serve the many.”

149)    “Corporate Concentration:  A Threat to the Right to Communicate?”  Robert McChesney,

“The Holy Trinity of the Global Media System     The nature of the global media system seems less abstract when one examines the recent growth, activities, and strategies of its three most important TNCs: Time Warner, Disney and News Corporation. Time Warner and Disney are the two largest media firms in the world, with 1998 sales in the area of $23-26 billion. News Corporation is in contention with Viacom for the status as fourth largest global media firm, with sales slightly more than one-half those of Time Warner and Disney, but under its CEO Rupert Murdoch it has led the way in media globalization. These are global empires constructed largely in the 1990s, and they are a long way from completion.”

150)    “America is always and necessarily right in all conflicts”, David McGowan,

“How can a nation of people follow a course justified by such poorly constructed and poorly told lies when the entire world is signaling its opposition? Professor John McMurtry has spoken of the "silently regulating principles" of the "ruling group-mind" that afflicts  America. One of those principals is that "America is always and necessarily  right in all conflicts with other nations or peoples or social forces. This is not a truth which facts can disprove, because it is true by definition in the ruling group-mind.”

151)    FBI, Serial Killers and Mind Control,  David McGowan,

“…a massive propaganda barrage aimed at instilling in the American people a thirst for public blood-letting as a cure for our ailing nation…in January 1979, Jeffrey Dahmer joined the U.S. Army and requested that he be trained as a military policeman…Jeffrey was released early with an honorable discharge. He later became a 'serial killer'…”

152)    “From the point of view of the state, ‘reality’ is whatever the shapers of public opinion say it is…”  David McGowan,

“From the point of view of the state, "reality" is whatever the shapers of public opinion say it is. Anyone who disagrees with the voices of authority is, therefore, insane…But if we base our definition on a relatively objective reality, then most of the people that I know are, without question, insane…These people hold beliefs that are clearly delusional -- that have absolutely no connection to reality. And they persist in holding these beliefs even when not a shred of evidence can be produced to support them. And no, I'm not talking about people who believe in UFOs, reincarnation, and the Loch Ness Monster. And I'm also not talking about people who believe in some supreme spiritual entity. I'm talking about people who believe that 'weapons of mass destruction' have been uncovered in Iraq.”

153)  “What It’s Really All About, part 3”, David McGowan,

“And here, at last, in a nutshell, is what the 'War on Terrorism' is all about. It is not about money. It is not about oil. And it is not about religion. It is about control. And the ultimate level of control, the type of control that is necessary in order to completely manufacture the reality that we all perceive - the reality that is so far at odds with the objective reality of global corporate rule, otherwise known as global fascism - is control of the human mind.”

154)  “Paying taxes is complicity in war crimes”, D. McGowan,

“…since the Bush regime is, technically speaking, a government of occupation, it could be reasonably argued that providing any form of financial aid to such a pseudo-administration is an act of treason…providing financial assistance to an entity engaged in the open commission of war crimes, is itself a war crime…after reviewing the principles established by the Nuremberg Tribunal in 1950, I'm wondering if there are any crimes listed therein that the United States government hasn't committed in recent years.”

155)    “The Hidden Face behind Advertising”, Chris McLean,

“The oldest audio subliminal technique uses a voice that follows the volume of the music.. My attorney obtained copies of the patents which I gave to some talented Hollywood sound engineers, asking them to create a new technique. They found a way to psycho-acoustically modify and synthesize the suggestions so that they are projected in the same chord and frequency as the music, thus giving them the effect of being part of the music. …although the suggestions are being heard by the subconscious mind, they cannot be monitored with even the most sophisticated equipment.”

156)    “…when the medium acquires transparency…its potential to fulful its primary function is greatest.”  Marshall McLuhan,

“…the more frequently and fluently a medium is used, the more 'transparent' or 'invisible' to its users it tends to become. For most routine purposes, awareness of a medium may hamper its effectiveness as a means to an end. Indeed, it is typically when the medium acquires transparency that its potential to fulfil its primary function is greatest.”

157)    Understanding Media, Marshall McLuhan, (excerpts)

“As extensions of human capacities and senses, media thus reconfigure and anticipate the transformation processes of the very society that created them influencing not only social and psychic behavior patterns, mental structures of thought (knowledge and memory) and cognitive settings but also their forms of representation such as architecture and town planning.”

158)    “Totalitarianism:  the Unseen Terrorist Pattern”, John McMurtry,

“Since the commitments of a society to safeguard the lives of its members and to ensure they are able to express themselves as human is the measure of its civilization, this global corporate program is not merely uncivilized. It is, beneath recognition, terrorist in its meaning. For if we recognize the real meaning of "terrorism" - to instill in innocent people fear for their life security to coerce their compliance to an armed faction's demands – we see its pattern increasingly at work across world life organization.”

159)    “Understanding the U.S. War State”, John McMurtry,

“I was shocked many years ago when I heard Noam Chomsky say that genocide was America’s defining political tradition. Then I realised that the United States (like Canada to a much lesser extent) was based on destroying the lives and cultures of the 25 million or so first peoples who had lived in America for millennia…The tradition of misleading the American people by false pretexts for aggressive wars is an old one in U.S. history, but since the fascist interregnum war criminal invasions of other countries have not been accepted by public opinion. The U.S. under the control of the corporate war party now seeks to reverse this trend.”

160)    “The BBC on Hiroshima”,

“…in reviewing the nuclear bombing of a defenceless city claiming 100,000 civilian lives, the BBC justified the attack in 35 seconds, based on an unfounded claim supported by one US army source with no counter-arguments being heard.”

161)    “Full Spectrum Dissent (1):  Extending the Scope of the Propaganda Model”,

“Around this time, US librarians refused to stock Frank L. Baum's Wizard Of Oz series of books because Baum wrote of how, in his imagined society, ‘there were no poor people... because there was no such thing as money, and all property of every sort belonged to the Ruler.  The people were her children and she cared for them.  Each person was given freely by his neighbours whatever he required for his use, which is as much as anyone may reasonably desire.’ “

162)    “Full Spectrum Dissent (2):  Enlightened Self-Interest”,

“’It is necessary to destroy hope, idealism, solidarity, and concern for the poor and oppressed, to replace these dangerous feelings by self-centred egoism, a pervasive cynicism that holds that all change is for the worse, so that one should simply accept the state capitalist order with its inherent inequities and oppression as the best that can be achieved. In fact, a great international propaganda campaign is underway to convince people -particularly young people - that this not only is what they should feel but that it is what they do feel, and that if somehow they do not adopt this set of values then they are strange relics of a terrible era that has fortunately passed away.’”

163)    “Media Alert:  In the Labyrinth of Illusion”,

“The philosopher Nagarjuna explained the rule 2,000 years ago:  ‘If one is plotting evil, He always uses pleasant words.  When a hunter sees the game, He sings a sweet song to lure it.’  But when the subordination of people to profit is so brazen, the  camouflaging lies so transparent, there is a real danger that the population will wake up from the illusion of genteel statesmanship and civilised democracy to the reality of elite violence and control.”

164)    “Media Alert:  Propaganda, Power and Moral Truisms”,

“Much of what we believe about ourselves and the world, then, is conditioned by a ‘pyramid’ of individuals who accept a range of “necessary illusions” and who are therefore selected for positions of influence within an establishment framework. Because these journalists, politicians and academics all believe what they’re saying, and because they all say pretty much the same thing, their version of reality has every appearance of being simply the Truth.”

165)      Prevention of big-picture understanding,

"A key role of the mass media is to prevent the public from achieving a  big picture understanding of how people and planet are systematically subordinated to short-term profit."

166)    “Media Alert:  Thought Control”,

“It’s an age-old conundrum for rulers everywhere. How can those who govern keep those who are governed from the levers of power? In ‘free’ societies lacking the option of “chains of iron”, devotion to consumerism and unthinking acceptance of the inequitable distribution of power have to be inculcated and maintained by a constant stream of state-corporate propaganda.

167)    “The Cold War against the Mind”, chap. Five of The Rape of the Mind, Joost Meerloo,

“To the degree that the individual is made an object of constant mental manipulation, to the degree that cultural institutions may tend to weaken intellectual and spiritual strength, to the degree that knowledge of the mind is used to tame and condition people instead of educating them, to that degree does the culture itself produce men and women who are predisposed to accept an authoritarian way of life. The man who has no mind of his own can easily become the pawn of a would-be dictator.”

168)    “Totalitaria and its Dictatorship”, chap. Six of The Rape of the Mind, Joost Meerloo,

“Totalitaria is any country in which political ideas degenerate into senseless formulations made only for propaganda purposes. It is any country in which a single group -- left or right -- acquires absolute power and becomes omniscient and omnipotent, any country in which disagreement and differences of opinion are crimes, in which utter conformity is the price of life.”

169)    “The Intrusion by Totalitarian Thinking”, chap. Seven of The Rape of the Mind, Joost Meerloo,

“The weapon of terror has been used by tyrants from time immemorial to make a meek instrument of man. In Totalitaria, the use of this weapon is refined to a science which can wipe out all opposition and dissent. The leaders of Totalitaria rule by intimidation; they prefer loyalty through fear to loyalty through faith. Fear and terror freeze the mind and will; they may create a general psychic paralysis.”

171)    “Merger Mania”, Kalle Lasn interview,

“What we need now is a Silent Spring of the mental environment – a book, a film, a charismatic media reformer who warns of a future in which corporations do the talking and dissenting voices no longer speak back.”

172)    “The Lies we are told”, Doreen Miller,

“Those in positions of power knowingly concoct fabrications, half-truths, and outright lies, repeated ad nauseam through carefully controlled media, to create the fear-filled reality needed to further their own personal, often repulsive, agenda. The leaders of
the United States are by no means exempt from this tactic, but are truly the masters of deceit.”

173)    Mind Control (electronic),

“In 1992, Retired Colonel L. Fletcher Prouty, formerly a Pentagon liaison to the CIA, …wrote "If you get ahold of a directory for the American Psychiatric Association in around 1956 or 1957, you'll be surprised to find that an enormous percentage of the individuals listed are foreign-born. Mostly they came out of Germany and Eastern Europe in a big wave. They were all called "technical specialists", but really they were psychiatrists. They went into jobs at universities mostly - but many were working on these 'unconventional' mind control programs for U.S. intelligence.”

174)    Mind Control Forum,

“In 1941, Szent-Gyorgyi, a physician and biochemist who had already been awarded the Nobel Prize for his work on biological oxidation mechanisms and vitamin C, made the startling suggestion that such phenomena as semiconduction could exist within living systems. He postulated that the atomic structure of such biological molecules as proteins was sufficiently organized to function as a crystalline lattice. In the case of the fibrous proteins he proposed that they could join together in "extended systems" with common energy levels permitting semiconduction current flow over long distances.” []

175)    “Mind Control out of control”, Cathy O’Brien and Mark Phillips,

“Project Paperclip was the importation of Nazi and fascist scientists into this country after World War Two that saturated our universities, saturated our 400-500 corporations, saturated NASA – it built NASA – and it has infiltrated every aspect of society with its filth! Filth in child pornography, filth in blood rituals and hideous religious beliefs that involve human sacrifice – anything to traumatise the mind.”

176)    Mind Control Research,

“Current mind control and exotic warfare research is reported to include the use of brainwashing; hypnosis and narco-hypnosis; electro-convulsive therapy; narcotics, psychedelics and other behavioral altering drugs; high production behavior and neuro-linguistics programming; remote telepathy including "astral projection" and other psychic phenomena; computer generated telepathy; biomedical engineering; low frequency sound; microwaves; electromagnetic pulses; Radio Hypnotic Intercerebral Control - Electronic Dissolution of Memory; very low frequency sound; ultrasonics; high powered microwave pulses, oscillating magnetic fields, and other lesser known technologies.”

177)  “The fake persuaders”, George Monbiot,

“While, in the past, companies have created fake citizens' groups to campaign in favour of trashing forests or polluting rivers, now they create fake citizens. Messages purporting to come from disinterested punters are planted on listservers at critical moments, disseminating misleading information in the hope of recruiting real people to the cause.”

178)  “Double-speak and the NWO”, Richard Moore,

The New World Order…exploits language in precisely the way Orwell predicted. Words are used to mislead and conceal - not clarify - and are twisted to designate the opposite of their true meanings…This use of language is a form of propaganda - and this vocabulary propaganda is much more subtle and effective than content propaganda. Content propaganda misinforms about issues, but vocabulary propaganda interferes with the ability to think or talk about issues in a way that can lead to understanding or enable effective political organizing.

179)  “Escaping the Matrix”, Richard Moore,

“In the postwar years matrix reality diverged ever further from actual reality. In the postwar matrix world, imperialism had been abandoned and the world was being “democratised”; in the real world, imperialism had become better organised and more efficient. In the matrix world the US “restored order,” or “came to the assistance” of nations which were being “undermined by Soviet influence”; in the real world, the periphery was being systematically suppressed and exploited. In the matrix world, the benefit was going to the periphery in the form of countless aid programs; in the real world, immense wealth was being extracted from the periphery.”

180)  “New World Order:  What to Do”,  Richard Moore,

“a new regime of control over the media was in evidence…the coverage didn’t resemble previous war reportage at all, it was more like a real-time Hollywood movie – a story with black-and-white characters and a simple, clearly developing plot line. In the end, the bad guys were defeated and the good guys were victorious, and the whole tidy episode happened within the dramatic attention span of the audience. That last word sums it up – we in the US had become an audience to a presentation. As in the Roman Republic, the meaning of citizenship had been reduced to the act of watching circuses.

181)  “NWO:  What to Do (part two)”, Richard Moore,

“For democracy to work… the problem solving process must become the official political process. Participatory democracy (suitably defined) is not just a good idea – it is a provably necessary condition if sovereignty is to truly lie with the people themselves. Genuine democracy requires that people collaboratively solve the problems that affect their lives, that they discuss together the trade-offs of different alternatives. If they’re ‘outside the loop’, they’re out of power.”

182)  “Conspiracy Research as a Catalyst for Change”, Reid Mukai,

“Media has a powerful affect on culture, socialization, cognitive development, and perception, with the potential to influence not only elections, but thoughts, opinions, attitudes, emotions, relationships, and behavior. When this capability becomes monopolized by a cabal of billionaires, we get the system we see developing today: self-censoring, jingoistic, corporate-interest journalism, hyper-commercialism of everything, and increasingly insipid, mediocre mass entertainment products for mass consumption. Though perhaps not completely intentional, it has the net effect of regulating consciousness and accelerating global ecocide. By buying into this socio-economic pyramid scheme we both imprison and implicate ourselves in the conspiracy”

183)  Nazis/Recruiting, [lists names]

“In the critical period from 1945 to 1948, the correct assessments by U.S.militaryintelligence that the Soviet occupation forces in Eastern Europe were worn out and posed no threat, were supplanted with the Gehlen organization's lie that these same forces were a major military threat posed to invade Germany. The rest is our history, known as the Cold War.”

184)  “Consumer Brainwashing:  Neuromarketing”,

“Neuromarketing is a controversial new field of marketing which uses functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) a medical technology -- not to heal, but to sell products. A BrightHouse Institute for Thought Sciences news release issued June 22, 2002 explains that it uses fMRI to identify patterns of brain activity that reveal how a consumer is actually evaluating a product, object or advertisement…It seeks…to find a buy button inside the skull.’ “

185)  “Turning the Tide”, Nichols and McChesney,

“With a go-ahead from a federal judge and preparations underway at the deregulation-happy Federal Communications Commission to remove the last threads of the regulatory safety net, some of the most powerful corporations in the world are planning to build the sort of monopolies imagined by the authors of dystopian novels.”

186)  “No expenses spared domestic propaganda”,

“President Bush has decided to transform the administration's temporary wartime communications effort into a permanent office of global diplomacy to spread a positive image of the United States around the world and combat anti-Americanism.”

187)  “Why is the internet not controlled by the authorities?”, Peter Offerman, [note:  the internet is controlled by the International Telecommunications Union in Geneva]

“Because the internet is a much more effective propaganda tool if the users believe it’s content is of their own creation rather than Public Relations created by the elite. If there are no laws regarding truth or ethics then the elite have free reign to do whatever they desire. As shown in other media and systems such as voting, vast numbers don’t guarantee impartiality or freedom. Those that control the medium control the content. A voice of danger to the elite on the internet can be shut out by a number of well established PR techniques. The average user of the internet is only a target for the elite’s PR and no real threat to them.”

188)  “No Arabs on Flight 77”, Robert Olmstead, [info on remote-controlled planes]

“…a group of US pilots deliberated non-stop for 72 hours in an independent analysis of the 911 story. The inquiry stated, “The so-called terrorist attack was in fact a superbly executed military operation carried out against the USA, requiring the utmost professional military skill in command, communications, and control.

189)  “Politics and the English Language”, George Orwell,

“A man may take to drink because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail all the more completely because he drinks. It is rather the same thing that is happening to the English language. It becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts. The point is that the process is reversible.”

190)  “Thought Crime”, George Orwell, excerpt from 1984

“He had committed – would still have committed, even if he had never set pen to paper – the essential crime that contained all others in itself.  Thought-crime, they called it.”

191)  “The Doors of Perception:  Why Americans will believe almost anything”, Tim O’Shea,

“We are the most conditioned, programmed beings the world has ever known. Not only are our thoughts and attitudes continually being shaped and molded; our very awareness of the whole design seems like it is being subtly and inexorably erased. The doors of our perception are carefully and precisely regulated. Who cares, right?”

192)  “Every individual has a responsibility to be informed”, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul,

“As Samuel Adams once said, 'Go out and start a brush fire.' And you can do that with one individual or many. You can become a teacher or a writer or help somebody in politics. But you can only start a brush fire for freedom if you feel confident that you understand the issues and really can defend liberty as being the best system for all of us."

193)  “Rotten Roots:  U.S., Nazis & CIA”, Preston Peet,

“Davis details what he calls a ‘US/Nazi corporate conspiracy to bring a fascist state to America, and eliminate competition in the industrial raw materials market to force world-wide dependence on oil-based petro-chemicals.’  With a foundation built upon the Gehlen Org and other fascist criminals, the CIA never went astray. It began its existence already rotten to the core.”

194)  “Pentagon Readies Effort to Sway Sentiments Abroad”, Dao and Schmitt,

“One of the office's proposals calls for planting news items with foreign media organizations through outside concerns that might not have obvious ties to the Pentagon, officials familiar with the proposal said. General Worden envisions a broad mission ranging from "black" campaigns that use disinformation and other covert activities to "white" public affairs that rely on truthful news releases, Pentagon officials said.  "It goes from the blackest of black programs to the whitest of white," a senior Pentagon official said.

195)  Mander on Necessity of Eliminating Television, Alan Pert,

“A TV picture consists of 300,000 dots of light, beamed at high power into the brain.  The TV picture exists only in the brain of the viewer.  TV pictures lodge in the brain against our will.  Whatever is on TV is "unreal".  It is something made up, or a highly distorted segment of true experience.  TV substitutes an artificial world in place of the real thing.  People thus get out of touch with their true nature and genuine experience.  Hence TV viewers are are much more susceptable to the advertisers and the image makers.  Mander has had much experience in advertising, and he explains that if something is advertised we don't need it.  Those things we really need we go and find anyway.  Advertising creates false needs.

196)  “Imminent Peril (II)”, Dale Alan Pfeiffer,

“The prevalent economic system is predicated on never-ending growth, where prosperity requires continuous growth in production and consumption. Under this system, this growth must take place on a planet with limited resources and carrying capacity…Economists…point towards scientific and technological innovations that they are certain to come to our rescue. They ignore the scientists and engineers who warn that we cannot expect such breakthroughs alone to solve our problems, and argue that we need basic changes in our lifestyle. We need to wean ourselves from over-consumption, emphasizing sustainability instead

197)  John Pilger Reveals the American Plan,

“The attacks of 11 September 2001 provided the "new Pearl Harbor",  described as "the opportunity of ages". The extremists who have since exploited 11 September come from the era of Ronald Reagan, when far-right groups and "think-tanks" were established to avenge the American "defeat" in  Vietnam. In the 1990s, there was an added agenda: to justify the denial of a "peace dividend" following the cold war. The Project for the New American Century was formed, along with the American Enterprise Institute, the Hudson Institute and others that have since merged the ambitions of the Reagan administration with those of the current Bush regime.”

198)  “Journalism is Rotting Away”, John Pilger,

“I read in the Observer last Sunday that ‘Iraq was worth £20m to Reuters’. This was the profit the company would make from the war…  There is something deeply corrupt consuming this craft of mine. It is not a recent phenomenon; look back on the ‘coverage’ of the First World War by journalists who were subsequently knighted for their services to the concealment of the truth of that great slaughter. What makes the difference today is the technology that produces an avalanche of repetitive information, which in the United States has been the source of arguably the most vociferous brainwashing in that country's history.”

199)  Celldar:  Radar System that uses mobile phones,

“…some people are appalled that their cell phone will always give away where they are. That makes it possible to compile a "road map" of a user's movements. So imagine the outcry when privacy worriers learn that cell-phone systems can be used to locate and track a car, boat, or plane -- even if no one inside is carrying a wireless phone. But outcry or not, the technology seems certain to be deployed, given its myriad

civilian and military applications.

200)  “The End of Education”, Neil Postman,

“School's role is to pass on the five narratives and thus provide the young with ‘reasons to continue educating themselves’. Postman refers to his narratives as ‘gods’ in the sense that they tell of origins and futures, give meaning to the world and provide a sense of ‘community’, ‘personal identity’ ‘continuity’ and ‘purpose’…In the past, there were the old gods that served schools well giving them guidance, inspiration and purpose while instilling the values of ‘family honor, restraint, social responsibility, humility and empathy for the outcast’. They included the multiple narratives of democracy, of Jesus, ‘the great melting-pot-story’ and ‘the Protestant-ethic-story’. Those were the gods of the past-at least up until the last century. The twentieth century, Postman laments, ‘has not been a good century for gods’.

201)  “Neil Postman:  Some Recollections”,

“Neil Postman was easily the best public speaker I ever heard, and most who heard him agreed with that. He never spoke off the cuff, never from notes. He wrote all his speeches in longhand, and would try them on students first, usually revising a few words just to give you the sense that you had participated by listening. He wrote twenty books with only a felt tipped pen on notebook paper; all sentences crafted by hand. This too was satire, on "progress" in writing instruments. Postman, world famous media scholar, was famous among students and friends for refusing any technology thought to "improve" something in which he had never requested improvements.”

202)  “Informing Ourselves to Death”, Neil Postman,

“…George Bernard Shaw once remarked that all professions are conspiracies against the common folk. He meant that those who belong to elite trades -- physicians, lawyers, teachers, and scientists -- protect their special status by creating vocabularies that are incomprehensible to the general public. This process prevents outsiders from understanding what the profession is doing and why -- and protects the insiders from close examination and criticism. Professions, in other words, build forbidding walls of technical gobbledegook over which the prying and alien eye cannot see.”

203)  Neil Postman:  writing on the web (links),

“Technopoly is a state of culture. It is also a state of mind. It consists in the deification of technology, which means that the culture seeks its authorization in technology, finds its satisfactions in technology, and takes its orders from technology. This requires the development of a new kind of social order, and of necessity leads to the rapid dissolution of much that is associated with traditional beliefs. Those who feel most comfortable in Technopoly are those who are convinced that technical progress is humanity's superhuman achievement and the instrument by which our most profound dilemmas may be solved.

204)  “Stirring up trouble about technology, language and education”, Neil Postman,

“Now, we have a new element in the communication environment called television, which is making the idea of childhood increasingly untenable; and it is doing this in several ways. One is that it makes the content of the adult world available to the young without them having to learn any special coding system such as the printed word. Previously adults revealed the secrets of adult life—by secrets, I mean the social, political, and sexual secrets that adults know but that are not considered appropriate for children to know—to the young in stages and in psychologically assimilable ways.”

205)  “Public Relations and the Lobbying Industry”,

“ ‘In almost every act of our lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires that control the public mind.’ "

206)  “Technologies of Time and Space:  a Pre-history of Multimedia”,

“…a medium does not have to have interpretable content - a message as such, (he uses the example of electric light), and notes that the content of any medium is always another medium - the content of writing is speech, the written word is the content of print etc., whilst its message is the change of scale or pace or pattern or possibilities that it introduces into human affairs.”

207)  “Press Uses Actors in War on Islam”, Carol Valentine,

“The Washington Times has faked two photos in its coverage of the War On Islam. One actor was used twice: first cast as an enemy of America, then nine days later, as a friend of America. This sham illustrates the contrived nature of the War on Islam.  It indicates that those who run the press in America are those who designed this war.”

208)  Bush Bashing Books,

“Bookstore display tables give the distinct impression there is a lot of lying going on in America these days, with President George W. Bush and his top advisers portrayed as the main culprits. Bestsellers include…”

209)  Psychological Operations Reference Books

Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare/The CIA's Nicaragua Manual, with Essays by Joanne Omang and Aryeh Neier, Published by Random House, New York, 1985”

210)  Psychological Warfare/Operations, “Capture their hearts and their minds will follow”,

“…psychological operations are coming of age…Why then , you may ask, has the value of psychological operations taken so long to receive general recognition, and why is it full potential yet to be realized?...although psychological operations has been utilized by various military leaders over the centuries, it has only been recently with the major advances in behavioral sciences and mass communications that PSYOP has come into its own as an effective weapon system of great potential.”

211)  “Trust Us…We’re Experts”, Sheldon Rampton & John Stauber,

“Public relations firms and corporations have seized upon a slick new way of getting you to buy what they have to sell:  Let you hear it from a neutral "third party," like a professor or a pediatrician or a soccer mom or a watchdog group. The problem is, these third parties are usually anything but neutral. They have been handpicked, cultivated, and meticulously packaged to make you believe what they have to say--preferably in an "objective" format like a news show or a letter to the editor. And in some cases, they have been paid handsomely for their "opinions."

212)  “Mind Control Experiments on Children”, John Rappoport,

“In the mid-1950’s, Paul Hoch, M.D., a man who would become Commissioner of Mental Hygiene for the State of New York, then a laborer in the field for the CIA, gave a ‘pseudoneurotic schizophrenic’ patient mescaline. The patient had a not-unfamiliar heaven-and-hell journey on the compound.  But Hoch followed this up with a transorbital leucotomy... Hoch also gave a patient LSD, and a local anaesthetic, and then proceeded to remove pieces of cerebral cortex, asking at various moments whether the patient’s perceptions were changing.”

213)    “War Propaganda”, Charley Reese,

“The administration wants you to see the war as an electronic game with bright lights in the distance and good sound effects, or close-ups of our brave warriors firing their guns at an invisible enemy. It doesn't want you to see the torn flesh, blood, intestines, feces, urine. If you did, you might not support the war, and billions of dollars depend on your support.”

214)    Leni Riefenstahl [film-maker],

“…she created Triumph of the Will, an inestimable propaganda tool in building the myth of Hitler-as-savior…”

215)    Michael Rivero, “Dictatorship Through Deception”,

It's the oldest trick in the book, dating back to Roman times; creating the enemies you need…Lie after lie. Deception after deception. This is how the government of the United States keeps you confused, keeps you blind, keeps you disinformed, lies, cheats, and steals, all the better to rule you while letting you imagine you have some freedom of choice in the matter. It's a "soft" dictatorship, but a dictatorship no less…Truth is for the masses; it's a serious inconvenience for the government and the media. …So, here we are today. Like the Romans of Crassus' and Cicero's time, or the Germans under a newly elected Hitler, we are being warned that a dangerous enemy threatens us, implacable, invisible, omnipresent, and regrettably invulnerable as long as our government is hamstrung by that silly old Bill of Rights...’”

216)    Michael Rivero, “Fake Terror”,

“Hill and Knowlton produced dozens of video news releases (VNRs) at a cost of well over half a million dollars, but it was money well spent, resulting in tens of millions of dollars worth of "free" air time. The VNRs were shown by eager TV news directors around the world who rarely (if ever) identified Kuwait's public relations (PR) firm as the source of the footage and stories. TV stations and networks simply fed the carefully-crafted propaganda to unwitting viewers, who assumed they were watching "real" journalism. After the war Arthur Rowse asked Hill & Knowlton to show him some of the VNRs, but the PR company refused.”

217)    “Global Mind Control Slated for Humanity”,

“…an invasive mind control technology known as a "Frequency Fence" is slated for implementation onto global society. This Frequency Fence is a bio-neurological, electromagnetic induced form of mind control which will block your higher sensory abilities. A literal "perceptual harness" or "mental prison" will be built around you without you even knowing it is happening, and the scariest part is, your five senses will not alert to you that anything is wrong.”

218)    Theodore Roszak, from The Cult of Intelligence,

“Wiener saw feedback as far more than a clever mechanical trick; he regarded it as an essential characteristic of mind and of life. All living things practice some form of feedback as they adapt to their environment…’To live effectively,’ he concluded, ‘is to live with adequate information. Thus, communication and control belong to the essence of man's inner life, even as they belong to his life in society.’ “

219)  “The Computer Trap” (Theodore Roszak interview)

“Not so long ago, within my own lifetime, the word information did not have much status in our culture. It was considered a rather marginal department of intellect…Information became transformed from that modest, marginal status to a titanic concept that encompasses all powers of the human mind. We came to the conclusion that information processing is essentially, and most significantly, what the human mind does. I take that to be a weak piece of folklore which the general public has come to accept…Information is a scattered body of facts and figures. Knowledge is some higher level of organization, say the difference between scattered evidence from experiments and a scientific theory. The theory is knowledge.  The major division I develop in the book is between information and ideas. The mind thinks with ideas and not with information. It uses information, but ideas are ultimately responsible for generating information.”

220) David Ruppe, “Friendly Fire”,

“In the early 1960s, America's Top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill

innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba. Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities. The plans were developed as ways to trick the American public and the international community into supporting a war to oust Cuba's then new leader, communist Fidel Castro.”

221) Michael Ruppert, “How stupid do they think we are?”

“World events since the attacks of September 11, 2001 have not only been predicted, but also planned, orchestrated and - as their architects would like to believe - controlled. The current Central Asian war is not a response to terrorism, nor is it a reaction to Islamic fundamentalism. It is in fact, in the words of one of the most powerful men on the planet, the beginning of a final conflict before total world domination by the United States leads to the dissolution of all national governments. This, says Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) member and former Carter National Security Advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, will lead to nation states being incorporated into a new world order, controlled solely by economic interests as dictated by banks, corporations and ruling elites concerned with the maintenance (by manipulation and war) of their power.”

222) M. Sabheddin, “How to say ‘NO’ to the New World Order”,

Money is to be the sole unifier, the only thing that brings people together. Everything is reduced to a commodity to be bought and sold. Notions of community united by language, distinct culture, history, tradition, a common homeland, a shared destiny, must be ‘neutralised’. With the rapid growth of technology, people are more important as consumers, than producers. The free market demands that the ties of history and tradition be broken and replaced by the ideal of a society of selfish consumption.”

223) M. Sabheddin, “The Truth is out there”,

“ ‘Ruling elites will use conspiracy,’ states political scientist and activist Dr. Michael Parenti. ‘They will finance elections, publicity campaigns, publishing houses, wire services, and academic studies. They will use surveillance, mobsters, terrorists, assassins and death squads.’  Conspiracy researchers 'look behind the dark curtain' that shrouds history and the sacrosanct assumptions reinforcing contemporary society.  There really are, as investigative author Jim Hougan says, two kinds of history, the safe, sanitized ‘Disney version,' so widely available as to be unavoidable...and a second one that remains secret, buried, and unnamed.”

224) Gregory Sams, from The State is Out of Date (preface), [entire text available on-line]

“I suggest that it is not a natural condition of being human that we must kill and maim each other for really unnecessary reasons. After meeting thousands of people in travels across different continents, cultures, and sub-cultures, I have formed the opinion that the vast majority of humanity are not natural-born killers.  Our incessant attempts to forcibly put order into the chaotic and constantly changing mix of our civilization is the reason, I suggest, that we experience so much disorder, suffering and what is often referred to as "chaos". For too long society has been "run" on the basis that we are actually able to govern and control something so complex by setting ever more complex rules and regulations - linear controls which often serve to obstruct the natural evolutionary changes that a successful development of our species demands.

225) Bernie Sanders, “Corporations have a choke-hold on the media”,

“One of our best-kept secrets is the degree to which a handful of huge corporations control the flow of information in the United States.   Whether it is television, radio, newspapers, magazines, books or the Internet, a few giant conglomerates are determining what we see, hear and read.  And the situation is likely to become much worse as a result of radical deregulation efforts by the [unelected] Bush administration and some horrendous court decisions.   Television is the means by which most Americans get their “news.” Without exception, every major network is owned by a huge conglomerate that has enormous conflicts of interest.”

226)  Lydia Sargent, “Press the Press”,

“We have to go after the media.  We forget at times that mainstream media (when not informing elites) is to (quote Chomsky) ‘keep[ing] the rabble in line. [It] make[s] sure that we are atoms of consumption, obedient tools of production, isolated from one another, lacking any concept of a decent human life. We are to be spectators in a political system run by elites blaming ourselves and each other for what’s wrong.’ “

227) Psy-ops page/links,

“With the break up of the Soviet Union in 1989,the US promotes non-lethal emr weapons which have been classified since the 1960s. Several mainstream Soviet press articles claim Russian top secret and massive mind control technology program in chaos… Electromagnetic weapons: more powerful than the atomic bomb, scientists say…”

228)  John Raulston Saul, The Unconscious Civilization, “From Propaganda to Language” (chapter)

It is the intent that is in question - the intent to use language to communicate, or alternately, through control of it, to use language as a weapon of power...Unconsciousness - even hysterical unconsciousness - is not a surprising characteristic in a corporatist society where the language attached to power is designed to prevent communication."

229) Robert Scheer, “Bush pushes ‘Big Lie’ towards the brink”,

" ‘We have not seen such systematic distortion of intelligence, such systematic manipulation of the American people, since the war in  Vietnam,’ wrote John Brady Kiesling… The entire world is astonished that our president is lying not about a personal indiscretion but about the most sacred duty of the leader of the most powerful nation in human history not to recklessly endanger the lives of his own or the world's people. Yet lie he has.”

230) Herbert Schiller, “Information Inequality”, interview with Geert Lovinck,

“The monopolies are stronger than ever and the concentration continues.  It now embraces a wide area, it is not just 'media.' All forms of communication are brought together in these unified corporate conglomorates. You have Time-Warner, which has assets of about 20 billion dollar and is operating radio stations, recording studios, film studios, television programming and increasingly, also, retail stores, where they sell the apparels that they produce in their movies. Disney is of course an enormous conglomorate. Then there is Viacom, which owns MTV and does a great job in selling pop culture and making these kids less and less capable of doing any thinking. But it also includes computer companies, telephone companies. The television networks are all owned by super conglomerates.”

231) Jeffrey Steinberg, Schiller Institute,

“ ‘I think the subject which will be of most importance politically is mass psychology.... Its importance has been enormously increased by the growth of modern methods of propaganda. Of these the most influential is what is called ‘education.’ Religion plays a part, though a diminishing one; the press, the cinema, and the radio play an increasing part.... It may be hoped that in time anybody will be able to persuade anybody of anything if he can catch the patient young and is provided by the State with money and equipment.'  [Bertrand] Russell continued, The subject will make great strides when it is taken up by scientists under a scientific dictatorship....The social psychologists of the future will have a number of classes of school children on whom they will try different methods of producing an unshakable conviction that snow is black.’ “

232) Herbert Schiller:  links to information,

NOTE:  I had the honor of interviewing Herbert in 1990;  excerpts appear in the “quotes” section of  A comprehensive bibliography of his work appears at the end of the “Information Inequality” interview.

233) Herbert Schiller, “intellectual scourge…”,

“Some commentators may be enthused by the internet, the spread of new technologies, or simply the pleasures of soap opera, but for Herbert Schiller, who has died aged 80, the $100bn alliances between the likes of America On-line, Times Warner and EMI were of greater consequence. They symbolised a world of information dominated by consumerist values and commercial principles. Alongside Noam Chomsky, Schiller occupied a premier position as a critic of American media practice and policy.”

234) Herbert Schiller, “The Information Superhighway”,

“Schiller warned of two major trends in his prolific writings and speeches: the private takeover of public space and public institutions at home, and U.S. corporate domination of cultural life abroad, especially in the developing nations. His eight books and hundreds of articles in both scholarly and popular journals made him a key figure both in communication research and in the public debate over the role of the media in modern society.”

235) Cheryl Seal, “Decoding Media Propaganda”,

“The tactics used are classic CIA, and can be divided into a few general categories:  Distract and Redirect: When a damaging story looms on the horizon, you distract the public's attention by creating an alternative "big story" focused as far away from the real story as possible. A classic example is the Jessica Lynch rescue, which actually turned out to have been stage-managed. The damaging, real story was the slaughter of Iraqi civilians, including women and children, by US troops.”

236) Cheryl Seal, “Clear Lies 5:  Nuclear Nightmare”,

The entire Bush speech that introduced Clear Skies is so full of lies, manipulations, disinformation, and blatantly false promises that it would require a book to address each statement. In this series, I have selected 16 statements from the text of the speech and divided them into what I consider the Initiative’s five main issues: conservation (lack of), environmental health (devastation of), freemarket solutions (failure of), science (absence of), coal (dominance of), and nuclear energy (state sponsored terrorism).”

237) “History of Sometimes Fatal Experimentation on U.S. citizens”,

“1945 "Program F" is implemented by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC).
This is the most extensive U.S. study of the health effects of fluoride, which was the key chemical component in atomic bomb production. One of the most toxic chemicals known to man, fluoride, it is found, causes marked adverse effects to the central nervous system but much of the information is squelched in the name of national security because of fear that lawsuits would undermine full-scale production of atomic bombs.”

238) “Shared Delusional Systems”,

“Psychotic disorders are characterized by a difficulty with reality testing - differentiating what is real from what is imagined, and the disorders may be characterized by false belief systems referred to as delusions and often by auditory and/or visual hallucinations…While extreme environmental situations may produce psychotic symptoms, it is generally accepted that many of the psychotic disorders are attributable to a defect in brain chemistry and the way in which the brain processes its electrochemical impulses.”

239) Chris Shumway, Media Criticism links/McChesney/Chomsky,

There is, in fact, a regular flow of high-level people among corporations, government and media. Access to state authorities is important to maintain a competitive position; "leaks," for example, are often fabrications and deceit produced by the authorities with the cooperation of the media, who pretend they don't know. In return, state authorities demand cooperation and submissiveness. Other power centers also have devices to punish departures from orthodoxy, ranging from the stock market to an effective vilification and defamation apparatus.

240) “Silent Sound”,

“The mind-altering mechanism is based on a subliminal carrier technology the Silent Sound Spread Spectrum sometimes called "S-quad" or "Squad" <. It was developed by Dr Oliver Lowery of Norcross Georgia, and is described in US Patent #5,159,703 "Silent Subliminal Presentation System"…By using these computer-enhanced EEGs scientists can identify and isolate the brain´s low-amplitude "emotion signature clusters" synthesize them and store them on another computer In other words <, by studying the subtle characteristic brain wave patterns that occur when a subject experiences a particular emotion scientists have been able to identify the concomitant brain wave pattern and can now duplicate it ."These clusters are then placed on the Silent Sound[TM] carrier frequencies and will silently trigger the occurrence of the same basic emotion in another human being!”

241) Christopher Simpson, “Bare Fists and Brass Knuckles” (excerpts from Blowback:  America’s Recruitment of Nazis…),

“The practical effect of this arrangement was the creation of a powerful lobby inside American media that tended to suppress critical news concerning the CIA's propaganda projects. This was not simply a matter of declining to mention the fact that the agency was behind these programs, as Mickelson implies. Actually the media falsified their reports to the public concerning the government's role in Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberation for years, actively promoting the myth-which most sophisticated editors knew perfectly well was false-that these projects were financed through nickel-and-dime contributions from concerned citizens.”

242) Christopher Simpson, from The Splendid Blonde Beast,

“The present world order supplies stability and rationality of a sort for human society, while its day-to-day operations chew up the weak, the scapegoats, and almost anyone else in its way. This is not necessarily an evil conspiracy of insiders; it is a structural dilemma that generates itself more or less consistently from place to place and from generation to generation…It is individual human beings who make the day-to-day decisions that create genocide, reward mass murder, and ease the escape of the guilty. But social systems usually protect these individuals from responsibility for "authorized" acts, in part by providing rationalizations that present systemic brutality as a necessary evil.

243) Abdullah Mohammed Sindi, “How the Jewish-Zionist Grip on American Film and Television promotes bias against Arabs and Muslims”,

“Hollywood has presented an image of Arabs that is often cruel and barbaric. Manifesting its support for Israel, and its opposition to the Arab and Muslim worlds, which have strongly opposed the invasive Zionist state, Hollywood developed a cinema genre around the Arab-Israeli conflict. In this spirit, Hollywood has produced numerous "good guy/bad guy" films over the last 50 years, simplistically portraying heroic and righteous Israeli Jews prevailing against treacherous and barbaric Arabs. During the 1960s alone, at least ten such major Hollywood films were produced.”

244) Mark Sircus, “Pharmaceutical Terrorism”,

The people who bring you your Bayer Aspirin are the same folks who built and ran the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.  Auschwitz was the largest mass extermination factory in human history. Few people know that Auschwitz was a 100% subsidiary of IG Farben which now lives on as the Bayer Aspirin company…The pharmaceutical departments of the IG Farben cartel used the victims of the concentration camps in their own way: thousands of them died during human experiments such as the testing of new vaccines.”

245) D. Sklar, “Making an Obedient Mass:  Nazis and the Occult”,

“Most people are suggestible and can be hypnotized against their will, obeying commands even when they go against the grain. Dr. Sargant observes:  ‘It is not the mentally ill but ordinary normal people who are most susceptible to "brainwashing," "conversion," "possession," "the crisis" . . . and who . . . fall readily under the spell of the demagogue or the revivalist, the witch-doctor or the pop group, the priest or the psychiatrist, or even in less extreme ways the propagandist or the advertiser.’ “

246) Gar Smith, America’s Ministry of Propaganda (four) “Black Programs and the Future of Propaganda”,

“Perception management (the art of propaganda, misdirection and lies, if you will) is no longer discreetly hidden away in some dark wing of the intelligence or defense establishments: It has become firmly enshrined right down the hall from the Oval Office.  The Office of Global Communications (OGC) is centered in the White House. If there is a Ministry of Propaganda in the Bush administration, the OGC is it. As Gardiner notes: ‘The White House is at the center of the strategic communications process.’  “

247) Gar Smith, America’s Ministry of Propaganda (three), “A Strategy of Lies”,

“…assembled by USAF Colonel (Ret.) Sam Gardiner. ‘Truth from These Podia: Summary of a Study of Strategic Influence, Perception Management, Strategic Information Warfare and Strategic Psychological Operations in Gulf II’ identifies more than 50 stories about the Iraq war that were faked by government propaganda artists in a covert campaign to ‘market’ the military invasion of Iraq. ‘It was not bad intelligence’ that lead to the quagmire in Iraq, ‘It was an orchestrated effort [that] began before the war’ that was designed to mislead the public and the world. Gardiner's research lead him to conclude that the US and Britain had conspired at the highest levels to plant ‘stories of strategic influence’ that were known to be false.”

248) Gar Smith, America’s Ministry of Propaganda (two), “Targeting Critics, Spreading Lies, PSY-ops”,

‘Strategic influence is aimed at international audiences (and maybe domestic audiences),’ Gardiner explains, while PSYOPS (Psychological Operations) ‘are targeted at the bad guys.’  The disturbing thing about this war, Gardiner found, was that ‘PSYOPS became a major part of the relationship between the governments of the US and the UK and the free press.’  The record reveals how the Pentagon, State Department and White House all relied on PSYOPS techniques to manipulate the media as a psychological weapon against the Iraqis.”

249) Gar Smith, America’s Ministry of Propaganda (one), “Transforming Language to market the ‘big lie’ “,

“In an episode that recalled the creation of the "Old Shoe, the fictitious hero concocted by Robert deNiro's ace "perception manager" in the film "Wag the Dog," Washington's propaganda artists literally brought someone back from the dead.  Lt. Commander Scott Speicher had been shot down during the first Gulf War in 1991. In an attempt to generate sympathy and support for Bush's pre-emptive war, "intelligence sources" began circulating a bizarre new story to the US media. In what Gardiner called "a pattern typical of created stories," these unnamed sources started a rumor that Commander Speicher had not only survived but that he had somehow spent the past decade trapped in an Iraqi prison.”

250) Rick Smith, “Propaganda for the Masses:  Hitler’s Use of Emotions to Manipulate Reason and Public Opinion”,

“I would also like to warn my readers to be wary of the those who would stage and fabricate events designed to create emotional responses, as Hitler once did, in order to facilitate what would otherwise be unpopular agendas. To think that such ideas are mere "conspiracy theory" is to make a conscious decision to ignore history. Powerful people manipulate the masses quite consciously and quite deliberately, they always have, and probably always will (unless the masses wise up). A brief perusal of the writings of such people as Walter Lippmann, George Creel, Edward Bernays, and other influential government advisers should make this painfully clear; western academics and politicians have learned from the mass mind manipulation techniques employed by the Nazis, and incorporated them into newer, subtler, and better techniques.”

251) Nancy Snow, “Propaganda, Inc:  Behind the Curtain at the U.S.I.A.”,

“In this interview with GNN, Dr. Snow breaks down the covert history of U.S. propaganda efforts both inside and outside of the country’s borders. Tracing the strategies employed by top propagandists like George Creel and Walter Lippman, Dr. Snow elaborates an over-arching system of mass persuasion that targets our most educated and influential citizens in order to shape the construct of public opinion.”

252) Nancy Snow, “Propaganda War:  One Year Later”,

“Today propaganda infiltration of the media system is more intense than ever.  You certainly cannot turn to the Internet as a source of “the absolute truth” since the Internet functions as an open media system and is subject to the same rumor-mongering and gossip as a National EnquirerThe Internet, as media and democracy scholar Robert McChesney notes, is also being colonized by the corporate landscape.”

253) Norman Solomon, “Globalization and its Malcontents”,

“…the glib pundit Thomas Friedman, whose 1999 book The Lexus and the Olive Tree lauded the tandem roles of corporate capitalism and American militarism. ‘The hidden hand of the market will never work without a hidden fist,’ he wrote. ‘McDonald's cannot flourish without McDonnell Douglas, the designer of the U.S. Air Force F-15.  And the hidden fist that keeps the world safe for Silicon Valley's technologies to flourish is called the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps.’ “

254) Arthur Stamoulis, “Closing Access to Information Technology”,

“In 2002 the FCC decided to characterize high-speed cable Internet connection —largely controlled by AOL-Time Warner, AT&T Broadband, and other large corporate players—as an "information service" rather than a "telecommunications service." This designation frees cable broadband from telecom rules, giving the cable companies that own broadband lines the ability to deny smaller ISP companies access over their cable lines…Such degree of market control spells trouble for freedom of information on the Internet. Cable and phone monopolies would become clearinghouses for information. Corporations and government agencies will hold tremendous power to filter and censor content. ISPs already have the capability to privilege, or block out, content traveling through their web servers. With the demise of open access regulations, Internet content will likely resemble the "monotonous diet of corporate content" that viewers now receive with cable television.”

255) Stephen Talbott, “Media Ecology:  Taking Account of the Knower”,

“All this is, I think, implicit in Postman's choice of the term, "media ecology." Stressing the parallel with environmental science, he notes that "one significant change generates total change. If you remove the caterpillars from a given habitat, you are not left with the same environment minus caterpillars: you have a new environment....The same is true if you add caterpillars to an environment that has had none." So "a new technology does not add or subtract something. It changes everything" (Technopoly, 18).”

256) “Tavistock’s Language Project:  The Origins of ‘Newspeak’ “,

“At the start of World War II, Tavistock operatives, including Brig. Gen. John Rawlings Rees in the Psychological Warfare Directorate, were busy at work on a secret language project. The target of that project was not the ``enemy,'' but the English language itself, and the English-speaking people…The Tavistock crowd had picked up on the work of British linguist C.K. Ogden, who had created a simplified version of the English language using some 850 basic words (650 nouns and 200 verbs), with rigid rules for their use. Called ``Basic English,'' or ``Basic'' for short, the product was ridiculed by most English-speaking intellectuals…But in the bowels of the psywar directorate, the concepts behind Basic were key to large-scale control of dangerous ``thought.'' A simplified English language limits the degrees of freedom of expression, and inhibits the transmission of meaning through metaphor…It is then easy to create a ``reality'' that can be shaped through the mass media, such as radio. A reduced language is a straitjacket for the human mind.”

257) Rixon Stewart, “Television:  the Hidden Picture”,

“According to Daniel Reid, writing in the Tao of Health Sex and Longevity, the rays from a TV flicker erratically, causing uneven and irregular stimulation of the retina. ‘This choppy stimulus is transferred directly into the brain via the optic nerve, which in turn irritates the hypothalamus. In scientific experiments conducted in the US but ignored by both the government and the television industry, rats exposed to colour TV for six hours a day became hyperactive and extremely aggressive for about a week. Thereafter they suddenly became totally lethargic and stopped breeding entirely.’ In effect their endocrine systems had been 'burnt out.'  Equally significant was the fact that during the experiment the TV screens were kept covered in thick black paper so that only the invisible rays came through. Thus, the damage was done, not by the visible rays, but by the invisible radiation.”

258) “The Terrorism of the Military”,

“The military may be viewed as an institution that is legally commissioned by a legitimate government to commit atrocious crimes against humanity. They are professional organizations sanctioned to terrorize on command…The weapons industry, according to Mercieca, which claims it exists to save and protect the lives of people, is instead ‘a main source of people's suffering, a financial burden on entire nations, a cause to numerous regional conflicts, and the greatest threat to our environment.’ The weapons industry is known to be one of the biggest producers of toxic waste contributing, more than any other single industry, to the destruction of our ecological system.”

259) “Terrorizing the Globe”,

Our planet is getting sick because we are sick and there seems like there is no doctor in the house with a power or wisdom to turn the course of events. A breakthrough in consciousness and a quantum leap in evolutionary awareness seem to be required for humanity to turn its course away from its current race to destruction.”

260) Victor Thorn, “Connecting the Dots:  Pre-9/11 WTC Power-down”,

Scott Forbes…who was hired by Fiduciary [Trust] in 1999…was working on the weekend of September 8-9, 2001, and said that his company was given three weeks advance notice that New York's Port Authority would take out power in the South Tower from the 48th floor up. The reason: the Port Authority was performing a cabling upgrade to increase the WTC's computer bandwidth.

Forbes stated that Fiduciary Trust was one of the WTC's first occupants after it was erected, and that a "power-down" had never been initiated prior to this occasion. He also stated that his company put forth a huge investment in time and resources to take down their computer systems due to the deliberate power outage. This process, Forbes recalled, began early Saturday morning (September 8th) and continued until mid-Sunday afternoon (September 9th) - approximately 30 hours. As a result of having its electricity cut, the WTC's security cameras were rendered inoperative, as were its I.D. systems, and elevators to the upper floors.

Forbes did stress, though, that there was power to the WTC's lower floors, and that there were plenty of engineers going in-and-out of the WTC who had free access throughout the building due to its security system being knocked out.”

261) Arlene Tyne, “High Tech Crimes and Electromagnetic Madness”,

“In October 1996 the respectable, Paris-based Intelligence Newsletter alluded to "lurid reports" that Boorda "was murdered because he was about to reveal sinister undertakings by the Navy in mind control and brain warfare." It disclosed that the admiral "was deeply involved in a study on the possibilities of cognitive warfare, a form of mind control that uses acoustical, optical and electromagnetic fields or a combination of the three to interfere with the biological processes of an enemy." (23)…Corroboration for the existence of "cognitive warfare" can be found in New World Vistas, a 16-volume, 1996 Air Force publication. The section on "biological process control" says that it is possible "to create high fidelity speech in the human body, raising the possibility of covert suggestion and psychological direction...[making it] possible to "talk" to selected adversaries in a fashion that would be most disturbing to them." (24)

262) Douglas Valentine, “Homeland Security for Whom?”

“…titled Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare, it states that ‘the human being should be considered the priority objective in a political war. And conceived as the military target of guerrilla war, the human being has his most critical point in his mind. Once his mind has been reached, the 'political animal' has been defeated, without necessarily receiving bullets.’  Having been politically and motivationally indoctrinated, Critical Infrastructure and other homeland personnel will spy on colleagues who may inadvertently or maliciously serve as terrorist surrogates…No one will want to be identified, even falsely, as an inadvertent or malicious terrorist surrogate, knowing that they are subject to being ‘stamped out,’ as Michael Ledeen suggests. In this way the Bush Regime is organizing its political cadre - Ledeen's ‘new people’ who have been psychologically defeated by the implicit terror around them and, having reverted to the same infantile state of mind occupied by President George W. Bush, have embraced the Fascist principles they've been subliminally indoctrinated with for years through the corporate propaganda machine.”

263) Manual Valenzuela, “Perpetual War, Perpetual Terror”,

“This intertwined dancing tango of cronyism is exactly what Eisenhower warned about. Like a virus MIC has spread itself throughout the hallways of the Pentagon, penetrating from top to bottom through the disease called greed. Now one and the same, the Pentagon and MIC have a common interest, motive and ability to shape how funds are used and wars are waged. The Pentagon is the Department of War, not Defense. It is in business to kill, kill, and kill some more. Without war, violence and weapons there is no Pentagon.”

264) Michael Ventura, “Weapons of Mass-Deception”,

“The Department of Homeland Security will include an Office of  Information Awareness, employing a system that is being called Total Information Awareness: a massive computer database combining information from intelligence agencies with information gathered by commercial  companies. Here is conservative columnist William Safire's description:  ‘This is what will happen to you. Every purchase you make with a credit card, every magazine subscription you buy and medical prescription you fill, every Web site you visit and e-mail you send or receive, every academic grade you receive, every bank deposit you make, every trip you book and every event you attend -- all these transactions and communications will go into what the Defense Department describes as 'a virtual centralized grand database.' “

265) Ben. C. Vidgen, “A State of Terror”,

“Since the final days of World War II, the totalitarian seekers have made use of people's hatred by establishing a clandestine Fascist network…Through a combination of individuals, government-endorsed death squads, influential religion-based secret societies and even governments, the freedom and willpower of the people are being destroyed. Terrorism has become the new means by which the old strategy of divide and conquer is being implemented on a global scale.”

266) Will Thomas, from All Fall Down:  The Politics of Terror and Mass-Persuasion,

"In Germany, the Nazis first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then the came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics, but I didn't speak up because I was a protestant.
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me."

Reverend Niemoeller, a German Lutheran pastor, was arrested by the Gestapo and sent to Dachau in 1938. He was freed by the allied forces in 1945.

267) Will Thomas, “Internet Ten…Warmongers 0”,

“To everyone following this global cliff-hanger, it looks like we're coming quickly down to a tripwire that could capsize the global applecart. Within weeks, a conscienceless Frankenstein armed with wicked weapons of mass destruction may be once again loose in our midst.  Or maybe not.  For all their firepower and media mesmerization techniques, the Bush junta“To everyone following this global cliff-hanger, it looks like we're coming quickly never reckoned on running head on into an uncontrollable source of constantly updated, augmented and corroborated information available 24/7 to anyone who can log online.  No one did.”

268) Paul Walker, “Quotations on Technology and Mass-Mind Control”,

"The individual may think that the most important reality is his own existence, but this is only his personal point of view.  This lacks historical perspective.  Man does not have the right to develop his own mind. This kind of liberal orientation has great appeal.  We must electronically control the brain.  Someday armies and generals will be controlled by electric stimulation of the brain." --Dr. Jose Delgado

269) Kenneth Warren & John Guscott, “The Battle for your Mind, Propaganda, PR and Psy-ops Quotron”,

"As generally understood, propaganda is opinion expressed for the purpose of influencing actions of individuals or groups... Propaganda thus differs fundamentally from scientific analysis. The propagandist tries to ‘put something across,’ good or bad. The scientist does not try to put anything across; he devotes his life to the discovery of new facts and principles. The propagandist seldom wants careful scrutiny and criticism; his object is to bring about a specific action. The scientist, on the other hand, is always prepared for and wants the most careful scrutiny and criticism of his facts and ideas. Science flourishes on criticism. Dangerous propaganda crumbles before it." Alfred McLung Lee & Elizabeth Bryant Lee, from: The Fine Art of Propaganda

270) “Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq:  Bush’s ‘Big Lie” and the Crisis of American Imperialism”,

“The supreme role of the lie in US politics reflects not simply the cynicism of the media, but rather the enormity of the social contradictions within America. The United States is the most deeply class-divided of all the industrial nations. It is a country whose social relations—dominated by vast disparities of wealth—are increasingly antithetical to any form of democracy, and instead conform to rule by a financial oligarchy.  It is impossible for the ruling class to give an honest accounting for a system that heaps up riches for the privileged few, while driving down the living standards of the vast majority of the population. These social tensions are leading inexorably to major political upheavals.”

271) Cheryl Welsh, Citizens Against Human Rights Abuse,

“A paper entitled, On the Need for new Criteria of Diagnosis of Psychosis in the Light of Mind Invasive Technology, by Carole Smith, now published by internet Journal of Psycho-Social Studies at

272) Mack White, “Television and the Hive Mind”,

“It was the night before Halloween, 1938. At 8 p.m. CST, the Mercury Radio on the Air began broadcasting Orson Welles' radio adaptation of H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds. As is now well known, the story was presented as if it were breaking news, with bulletins so realistic that an estimated one million people believed the world was actually under attack by Martians…Later, psychologist Hadley Cantril conducted a study of the effects of the broadcast and published his findings in a book, The Invasion from Mars: A Study in the Psychology of Panic. This study explored the power of broadcast media, particularly as it relates to the suggestibility of human beings under the influence of fear…Then, during World War II, Cantril÷and Rockefeller money÷assisted CFR member and CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow in setting up the Princeton Listening Center, the purpose of which was to study Nazi radio propaganda with the object of applying Nazi techniques to OSS propaganda…Those people who fled the Martians that night were right to be afraid. They were indeed under attack. But they were wrong about who was attacking them. It was something far worse than Martians. Had they only known the true nature of the danger facing them, perhaps they would have gone to the nearest radio station with torches in hand like the villagers in those old Frankenstein movies and burned it to the ground, or at least commandeered the new technology and turned it towards another use--the liberation of humanity, instead of its enslavement.”

273) “Propaganda”,

“Propaganda techniques were first codified and applied in a scientific manner by journalist Walter Lippman and psychologist Edward Bernays (nephew of Sigmund Freud) early in the 20th century. During World War I, Lippman and Bernays were hired by the United States President, Woodrow Wilson to participate in the Creel Commission, the mission of which was to sway popular opinion to enter the war on the side of Britain. “

274) “Mind Control”,

"Over the years there have been literally hundreds of studies"..."these studies show that considerable information capable of informing decisions and guiding actions is perceived even when observers do not experience any awareness of perceiving". Philip Merikle, Department of Psychology, University of Waterloo.

275) Nicholas Wilson, “Lies, Damn Lies and the PR Industry”,,

“Public relations is a sneaky business, which often does its work through manipulated news stories. "The best PR is never noticed," says the proud unwritten slogan of the trade. Media experts estimate that about 40 percent of all "news" flows virtually unedited from the public relations offices. The PR company may not write the story, but quietly manages the events that result in the story.”

276) Heather Wokusch, “Killing the Political Animal”,,

“In Body of Secrets, respected journalist James Bamford explores official government records in which the Pentagon ‘called for innocent people to be shot on American streets, for boats ... to be sunk on the high seas, for a wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington D.C., Miami and elsewhere,’ for ‘people to be framed for bombings they did not commit’ and for planes to be hijacked, all in the name of convincing Congress and the American public to support a new war.  Bamford writes about the early 1960s, but many of the Pentagon's proposals then seem uncomfortably reminiscent today.”

277) Lonnie Wolfe, “Americans Target of Largest Media Brainwashing Campaign in History”,

“As commentators on the scene at "Ground Zero" of the World Trade Center (WTC) attack on Sept. 11 surveyed the devastation, they reached for metaphors to describe the incredible scene. "It looks like Dresden," said one, referring to the firebombing of that German city by the Allies in 1944.  Dresden had no military value as a target. For centuries, it had been a center of German cultural heritage--a heritage that had everything to do with positive developments in human civilization, and nothing to do with the Nazi disease that had been imposed on Germany by the Anglo-American financial elite. Dresden was chosen for destruction as an act of TERRORISM, directed, not against the Nazis, per se, but the German people. The firebombing of Dresden, creating a raging inferno of destruction that slaughtered more that 100,000 human beings, was conceived and directed by a group of social psychiatrists at the Strategic Bombing Survey, affiliated with the Special Operations Command of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). This group was effectively overseen by the head of the British Psychological Warfare Directorate, Brig. Gen. John Rawlings Rees, the director the Tavistock Clinic in London, which, since the 1920s, had served as a center of psychological warfare operations of the British Empire.”

278) Lonnie Wolfe, “Turn Off Your Television” (part two),

“The operative concept is similar to what Adorno describes with his ‘forced retardation’.  You create a society based on the infantilism of the majority of its members; that society, when bombarded with television, becomes increasingly more infantile, more 'dissociative', as we learned from Emery and and his fellow Tavistockian Eric Trist.  Under such conditions, the so-called creative individuals, operating within the infantile geometry of the society as a whole, produce new ideas that further feed the infantile, carnal impulses of the individual.  This, in turn, plunges the society to a new, 'lower' level of thinking -- People become more stupid, led by their stupid ‘creative leaders’.”

279) Lonnie Wolfe, “Turn Off Your Television” (part three),

“In fact, most of the war was presented to the American public as ‘if it were a spectator sporting event’, complete with statistical analysis that measured every aspect of the fighting -- the numbers of dead, the numbers of bombs dropped, the numbers of bullets used -- This was the 'scorecard', as the Pentagon and other briefing officers called it, and as the press, and especially the television news, reported it.”

280) Lonnie Wolfe, “Turn Off Your Television” (part four),

“ 'All' television, if habitually viewed over a long period of time, is cognitively destructive.  The visual image tends to shut down the central nervous functions associated with human reason, as the brainwasher Fred Emery remarked twenty years ago.  Emery stated that there was a simple way to "detox" from such a state -- Stay away from television for a few days.  But Emery wrote before the era of MTV.  The MTV format induces a hypnotic trance-like state in its habituated viewers, and it becomes much more difficult to "turn off"; add to that, the 'playback' effects -- the images and videos -- playing back in one's head, even while the set is off, and you have created one of the most mind-numbing tools for mass brainwashing.  The brainwashers realize the power of MTV.  In a book on MTV, titled Rock Around the Clock by E. Ann Kaplan, the director of something called the Humanities Institute at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, writes that MTV "hypnotizes more than other 'television' because it consists of a series of short texts that maintain us in an excited state of expectation...  We are trapped by the constant hope that the next video will finally satisfy, and lured by the seductive promise of immediate plentitude, so we keep endlessly consuming the short texts.  MTV thus carries to an extreme a phenomenon that characterizes most of television..."

281) Lonnie Wolfe, “Turn Off Your Television” (part one),

“Another Tavistock brainwasher, Fred Emery, who studied television for 25 years, confirms this.  The television signal itself, he found, puts the viewer in this state of drugged-like oblivion.  Emery writes: ‘Television as a media consists of a constant visual signal of 50 half-frames per second. Our hypotheses regarding this essential nature of the medium itself are:

1) The constant visual stimulus fixates the viewer and causes the habituation of response.  The prefrontal and association areas of the cortex are effectively dominated by the signal, the screen.

2) The left cortical hemisphere -- the center of visual and analytical calculating processes -- is effectively reduced in its functioning to tracking changing images on the screen.

3) Therefore, provided the viewer keeps looking, he is unlikely to reflect on what he is doing and what he is viewing.  That is, he will be aware, but unaware of his awareness...’

‘In other words, television can be seen partly as the technological analogue of the hypnotist.’  The key to making the brainwashing work is the 'repetition of suggestion' over time.  With people watching the tube for 6 to 8 hours a day, there is plenty of time for such repeated suggestion.”

282) Alex Constantine, “The Depraved Spies and Moguls of the CIA’s Operation Mockingbird”,

“It is beginning to dawn on a growing number of armchair ombudsmen that the public print reports news from a parallel universe - one that has never heard of politically-motivated assassinations, CIA-Mafia banking thefts, mind control, death squads or even federal agencies with secret budgets fattened by cocaine sales - a place overrun by lone gunmen, where the CIA and Mafia are usually on their best behavior.  This unlikely land of enchantment is the creation of MOCKINGBIRD … conceived in the late 1940s, the most frigid period of the cold war, when the CIA began a systematic infiltration of the corporate media, a process that often included direct takeover of major news outlets.”

283) Gore Vidal interview, “The Erosion of the American Dream”,

“What I'm saying is the censorship is very tight. Don't think we're a free country to say anything we want. We can say it, but it's not going to be printed and you're not going to get on television. One of our great voices for some time now for peace in the world is Noam Chomsky. I've never seen his name in the New York Times in any context other than linguistics of which he's a professor at MIT. We go totally unnoticed.”

284)Konrad Becker, “Hypno-Politics and Hyper State Control, Law Entrainment and the Symbolic Order”,

“Many do not recognize the state of hypnosis because what they expect is to become unconscious. But unless you achieve deep somnambulistic levels, this is not what it is likely to be. Language itself is infected with the unconscious to the point where language is a collective unconscious dream.”

285) Voxfux, “CNN/CIA:  The Enemy Within (The Masters of Deception)”,

The New World Order crusaders know that it is better to control people and nations with the scientific application of fear and lies rather than the more unpredictable and expensive methodology of bullets and bombs…Since the 1950’s all major news and polling organizations have, to one degree or another, been absorbed into the sphere of control of the intelligence agencies. Now, the hard truth, which is simply too fantastic for most people to believe much less even comprehend in the first place is that the major news media is in actuality, mind controlling, opinion forming, population control mechanisms, and little else.”

286) Steve Aftergood, “The ‘Soft-Kill’ Fallacy”,

“Details about programs to develop so-called "non-lethal" weapons are slowly emerging from the U.S. government's secret "black budget." The futuristic aura of many non-lethal weapons is seductive, and their advent has been heralded uncritically by many media reports of kinder, gentler weapons.1 But basic political, legal, and strategic questions about the utility of the non-lethal thrust remain unanswered-sometimes even unasked. "Non-lethal weapons disable or destroy without causing significant injury or damage," asserted Undersecretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz in a March 1991 memorandum. This is an important misconception.”

287) Lyndon LaRouche, “How Bertrand Russell Became an Evil Man”,

“In that 1946 report, Russell presents his motive for the continued use of the geopolitical threat of nuclear weaponry by himself, Winston Churchill, et al.: to blackmail Moscow into submitting to an agreement whose purpose, Russell states explicitly there, is to transform the then recently established United Nations Organization into the kind of one-world dictatorship for which his world-federalist utopians have continued to work throughout this century.7  Russell's strategic dogma, as articulated in that 1946 edition of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, has shaped most of the history of this planet since that date.”

288) “Brain Entrainment Warfare”,

289) Christopher Simpson Interview,

“Psychological warfare first entered the English language as a translation, a mutation of a Nazi German concept called Weltanshaungskrieg which means world view warfare and during WWII the Americans built on that and expanded it and used it to mean a whole range of wartime type tactics involving propaganda, dirty tricks, covert operations, whatever, to carry out a war…Nowadays they call it low-intensity warfare. Sometimes it's called more politely 'public diplomacy'. Just to build on that point for a minute. When you hear people talk about low-intensity warfare, it simply means low-intensity compared to nuclear weapons.  Low-intensity warfare from the standpoint of people who are subjected to it is quite high intensity thank you very much! Some people would refer to it as total warfare conducted at the grass roots level. Its basically a form of terror.”

290) Mary Louise, “Operation Mockingbird:  CIA Media Manipulation”,

“Starting in the early days of the Cold War (late 40's), the CIA began a secret project called Operation Mockingbird, with the intent of buying influence behind the scenes at major media outlets and putting reporters on the CIA payroll, which has proven to be a stunning ongoing success… Media assets will eventually include ABC, NBC, CBS, Time, Newsweek, Associated Press, United Press International (UPI), Reuters, Hearst Newspapers, Scripps-Howard, Copley News Service, etc. and 400 journalists, who have secretly carried out assignments according to documents on file at CIA headquarters, from intelligence-gathering to serving as go-betweens.  The CIA had infiltrated the nation's businesses, media, and universities with tens of thousands of on-call operatives by the 1950's.  CIA Director Dulles had staffed the CIA almost exclusively with Ivy League graduates, especially from Yale with figures like George Herbert Walker Bush from the "Skull and Crossbones" Society.”

291) Phillip Collins, The Ascendancy of the Scientific Dictatorship (part one:  “Illuminating the occult origin of Darwinism”,

“As antiquity gave way to modern history, the religious power structure shifted to an autocracy of the knowable, or a 'scientific dictatorship.' Subtly and swiftly, the ruling class seized control of science and used it as an 'epistemological weapon' against the masses. This article will show that the history and background of this 'scientific dictatorship' is a conspiracy, created and micro-managed by the historical tide of Darwinism, which has its foundations in Freemasonry.”

292) Phillip Collins, The Ascendancy of the Scientific Dictatorship (part two:  “Science-fiction and the Sirius Connection”,

“Thus, 'science fiction' is a means of conditioning the masses to accept future visions that the elite wish to tangibly enact...This process of gradual and subtle inculcation is dubbed 'predictive programming.' Hoffman elaborates:  'Predictive programming works by means of the propagation of the illusion of an infallibly accurate vision of how the world is going to look in the future' (Hoffman, 205). Memes are instilled through the circulation of 'mass appeal' documents under the guise of 'science fiction' literature.”

293) Phillip Collins, “Manipulating Matter:  The Scientific Dictatorship as a Project in the Reconfiguration of Reality”,

“…the transmogrification of the elite’s religious power structure into a technocratic oligarchy [is] legitimized predominantly by science. The history and background of this ‘scientific dictatorship’ is a conspiracy, created and micro-managed by the historical tide of Darwinism, which has its foundations in Freemasonry. In this article, we shall examine the ‘scientific dictatorship’ as an enormous project in the re-sculpting of reality itself.”

294) Robert Becker & Andrew Marion, “Electromagnetism and Life”,

“While the concept that the unusual electromagnetic environment of the pre-Cambrian period was intimately involved with the very beginning of life can only be speculative at this time, the major influence that subsequent magnetic field reversals had on the evolutionary process appears to be well substantiated. Since all living things evolved under the influence of these electromagnetic forces, it would not be too surprising to find that the present natural electromagnetic environment continues to play an important role in certain basic life processes. Despite the weakness of the electromagnetic forces that constitute the earth's normal field, the evidence is compelling that somehow they provide a coordinate system for orienting and navigational behavior as well as a timing signal for biological cyclic phenomena.”

295) “Light Fantastic”,

“Why is the box addictive?  Australian researchers Fred and Merrelyn Emery claim to have hit upon the answer. Forget the programmes. they say. Whether it's the 'Ascent of Man' or a Bugs Bunny cartoon makes no difference at all. The important thing is the special kind of light that the TV emits. This is what stuns the brain cells and closes down the mind. The glow from your TV screen, they say, is difficult for the human nervous system to cope with…'The human perceptual system,' they say. 'evolved to deal with ambient light, not radiant light'. Nothing in evolution has prepared us for the luminous beams from the television set. Our ancestors' only similar experience might have been star-gazing or staring into the fire. And since we have no evolved system for extracting information from radiant light, 'We don't try to do it. We cut off'.”

296) William Cooper, from Majesty Twelve,

“The plan is real... the alien threat is imaginary. The alien threat is presented as real through the use of secret technology originally developed by the Germans in their secret weapon programs during WW-II, by geniuses like Nikola Tesla…All so-called "leaks" are intentional disinformation projects which are designed to promote the alien threat scenario while allowing for complete deniability on the part of government…The plan to create an artificial extraterrestrial threat to the Earth was first mentioned by John Dewey in New York during 1917 in a speech to the visiting Japanese Imperial Delegation headed by Viscount Ishii.”

297) Franz Anton Mesmer,

“Mesmer believed that a kind of psychic ether pervades all space, and that the astral bodies far and near cause tides in this fluid, or ether…He believed that this ether operating in individuals, when flowing naturally, results in a normal healthy condition throughout creation. Should the natural flow of this ether be impeded in any way, all sorts of sickness result…Later a blind pianist, young and attractive, was to cross his path. Mesmer promised to cure her if she would take up residence in his house so that he could concentrate his efforts. Although there is evidence that the young artist's sight malady was caused by a detached retina, she soon believed that she could see ever so dimly. His women patients invariably were outfitted in a loose smock to insure a freer transference of his magnetic powers, and it is quite likely that his technique included the hands-on kneading of their breasts, thighs, buttocks, and wherever Mesmer deemed the flesh seemed knotted unnatural concentrations of etheric fluid.”

298) Mark Phillips interview,

Guerrilla News: “So there was a huge interest for Hitler in mind control?” Mark Phillips: “Huge. Hitler didn't believe that a nuclear holocaust was the answer for winning the war. He did not believe in nuclear weapons. For obvious reasons; he did not want to spoil his spoils. So he believed that first of all the V2 rockets, was even outfitted with whistles, so that it would begin to terrorize. It was a psychological warfare weapon, combined with an ordinance delivery system, that had never been seen before on the planet. So he was overwhelming Northern Europe, particularly Great Britain, with these rockets as a psychological thing, more than any sort of damage they could do. But the mind control aspect of it was a hidden science, that Hitler had beliefs, steeped in mysticism, steeped in - he had sent a whole troop of his scientists, all the way to Tibet, to discover what, he felt, they knew with regards to mind control.”

299) Gore Vidal, “The Enemy Within”,

“…the media were assigned their familiar task of inciting public opinion against bin Laden, still not the proven mastermind. These media blitzes often resemble the magicians classic gesture of distraction: as you watch the rippling bright colours of his silk handkerchief in one hand, he is planting the rabbit in your pocket with the other.”

300) Control of Humanity, “Our minds are being numbed”,

“In 1963 Dr Robert Becker explored effects of external magnetic-fields on brainwaves showing a relationship between psychiatric admissions and solar magnetic stormsOne person emitting a certain frequency can make another also resonate to the same frequency. Our brains are extremely vulnerable to any technology which sends out ELF waves, because they immediately start resonating to the outside signal by a kind of tuning-fork effect.”

310)    Harold Innis, “A Contemporary Perspective”,

“Innis made an important observation when he said that it was difficult to assess the nature of our own culture when we are so much a part of it. In Industrialism and Cultural Values, Innis tells us that it is important to understand our culture from an historical perspective. In his own words: ‘It is perhaps a unique characteristic of civilization that each civilization believes in its uniqueness and its superiority to other civilization.’ The arrival of the Digital Age has been surrounded with an extraordinary amount of hype and faith: it is inherent in our nature to become absorbed by and dependent upon each new technology as it arrives, long before its effects are fully understood.”

311)    “Describing the Holocaust:  It’s Historical Uniqueness”,

“…the Nazi passion against the Jews was just that, a passion. Jews were exterminated not because they stood in the way of Nazi goals – for example either by occupying contested space or offering resistance. Rather, their extermination was the goal. All other mass killings of this century have at least a clear, if tenuous, connection with significant political purposes. And in most cases the murders have ended with the conflict which produced them. The Germans, on the contrary, rounded up Jews and shipped them off to be gassed after they became masters of a certain area, not in order to master it. Extermination of the Jews was an end in itself.”

312)    “How exposure to mobile-phone base-station radiation can adversely affectg humans”,

“Of particular relevance is the way in which this radiation affects brain function, specifically, its electrical activity (EEG), its electro-chemistry, and the blood brain barrier - and degrades the immune system.  For these established influences are of a kind that are consistent with the nature of adverse health reactions reported both by some users of mobile phones and by some people (involuntarily) subject to long-term exposure to the radiation from a Base-station.  For example, the radiation is known to affect the dopamine-opiate system of the brain and to increase the permeability of the blood brain barrier, both of which are medically considered to underlie headache &SHY;one of the most persistently reported adverse health effects.”

313)    David Icke, “Psychological Fascism”,,

"Experience has proven that the simplest method of securing a silent weapon and gaining control of the public is to keep them undisciplined and ignorant of basic systems principles on the one hand, while keeping them confused, disorganised, and distracted with matters of no real importance on the other hand.  This is achieved by:  1. disengaging their minds; sabotaging their mental activities; providing a low-quality programme of public education in mathematics; systems design and economics, and discouraging technical creativity.

2. engaging their emotions, increasing their self indulgence and their indulgence in emotionalphysical activities by:

a) unrelenting emotional affrontations and attacks (mental and emotional rape) by way of a constant barrage of sex, violence, and wars in the media - especially the TV and the newspapers.

b) giving them what they desire - in excess - "junk food for thought" - and depriving them of what they really need.

c) rewriting history and law and subjecting the public to the deviant creation, thus being able to shift their thinking from personal needs to highly fabricated outside priorities.”

314)  David Icke, “The Plan is to use America to break America”,,

“The United States may be the world superpower today and that's precisely what the Globalist* planned for it to be in the agenda for the centralisation of global control -- the planetary Orwellian state of world government, world army, world central bank and a microchipped population under constant survellience.

But while America is being used now as the vehicle to impose this current stage of the fascist agenda it is not meant to continue as the superpower.

In fact, destroying that status and breaking the spirit of America is fundamental in the installation of the global dictatorship.

The reason is this: a world government (dictatorship) and a superpower do not go together. The Globalist* dictatorship is meant to be the only superpower and for that to happen the United States must be brought into line.”

314)    Steve Gamble, “The Illusion that is surrounding us all…the illusion that is destroying Mother Earth”,

315)    Manuel Garcia, “The Imprisoned American Mind”,

“An individual inoculates himself from being infected by mass psychoses by developing a capacity for critical thought, an understanding of human nature and the reality of his own personality, by consciously working to improve and maintain his character, and by developing connections to sources of insight and compassionate awareness (religion can be one such example). This requires continuing mental effort over one's lifetime.

Minds that remain largely unused because of ignorance, which is the child of laziness, will be found by mass media ("propaganda," in the old days), filled with easily swallowed psychic worms that are coated with syrupy sweet sex, glistening cherry-red violence, desire-fulfillment fantasy, voyeurism, and lowest-common-denominator semi-pornographic mass culture. Once embedded, the underlying psychic messages re-program the thought patterns of the consuming individual for ease of remote control by the social programming elite.

If you don't think, someone will do it for you, but not for your benefit.”

316)    George Lakoff interview, “Inside the Frame”,

“As you have pointed out before, the Bush administration is incredibly skilled at using these framing phrases and concepts. And the right-wing think tanks laid the groundwork for it. But it seems to me that one characteristic of the framing phrases they use is that they are positive-sounding. It's Medicare reform. It's saving the forests by burning them down. It's clean air by allowing deregulation of the industry. They're not negative. The Democrats tend to use negative phrases a lot.”

317)   Chris Flash, “The Internet:  Privatization of the Public Domain”,,

“InterNIC was transfered from the public sector (NSF) to the private sector (SAIC), with no public hearings or a competitive bidding process. SAIC, a multi-billion dollar company, has strong ties to the Pentagon, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and National Security Agency (NSA). SAIC is a 20,000 employee-owned company with about 450 offices around the globe. Its current board of directors includes former NSA chief Bobby Inman, former Defense Secretary Melvin Laird, and the former head of research and development for the Pentagon, Donald Hicks. Ex-CIA director Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense William Perry and CIA Director John Deutsch have been past SAIC board members. Eighty three percent of SAIC's $2 billion annual revenue comes from government contracts, including defense, intelligence, and law enforcement contracts. SAIC is designing new information systems for the Pentagon, helping to automate the FBI's computerized fingerprint identification system, and last year won a $200 million contract to provide "information support" to the IRS.”

"We would no longer be restricted to top-level domain, such as .com or .edu," Garrin said. "Under the existing system, there's an artificial shortage of domain names driven by InterNIC's desire to control. By adding new suffixes such as .mag, .inc, .press, for example, numerous companies could use their own names." They could also eliminate NSI's monopoly control. "We're de-territorializing the Internet and bringing it back to the real ideal of virtual space with no national borders,'' he said.

319)    Mark Elsis, “Who authorized the assassination of John Lennon?”

“I believe the assassin was a mind-control experiment, like all their old tricks of MKULTRA, only much more sophisticated. I believe their old boss authorized it. The person the CIA building in Washington D.C. is named after. I believe he was the same person who tried to assassinate President Ronald Wilson Reagan on his sixty-ninth day in office -- March 30, 1981. He is the person with the most to gain from both of these assassinations. So, who authorized the assassination of John Lennon? I believe it was the 41st President of the United States, George Herbert Walker Bush.”

320)    Joseph Goebbels,

His work as a propagandist materially aided Hitler's rise to power in 1933. When Hitler seized power in 1933, Goebbels was appointed Reichsminister for propaganda and national enlightenment. From then until his death, Goebbels used all media of education and communications to further Nazi propagandistic aims, instilling in the Germans the concept of their leader as a veritable god and of their destiny as the rulers of the world. In 1938 he became a member of the Hitler cabinet council. Late in World War II, in 1944, Hitler placed him in charge of total mobilization.”

321)    Brainwashing,

"Flicking on the TV, Krugman began monitoring the brain-waves of the subject.  What he found through repeated trials was that within about thirty seconds, the brain-waves switched from predominantly beta waves, indicating alert and conscious attention, to predominantly alpha waves, indicating an unfocused, receptive lack of attention: the state of aimless fantasy and daydreaming below the threshold of consciousness…Further research revealed that the brain's left hemisphere, which processes information logically and analytically, tunes out while the person is watching TV. This tuning-out allows the right hemisphere of the brain, which processes information emotionally and noncritically, to function unimpeded…the basic electrical response of the brain is clearly to the medium and not to content difference.... [Television is] a communication medium that effortlessly transmits huge quantities of information not thought about at the time of exposure.' “

322)    George Lakoff, “The Frame around Arnold”,

“The conservative worldview is shaped by very different family values.  The strict father model assumes that the world is and always will be dangerous and difficult and that children are born bad and must be made good. The strict father is the moral authority who has to support and defend the family, tell his wife what to do, and teach his kids right from wrong. The only way to do that is painful discipline – physical punishment that is to develop by adulthood into internal discipline. Morality and survival jointly arise from such discipline – discipline to follow moral precepts and discipline to pursue your self-interest to become self-reliant. The good people are the disciplined people. Once grown, the self-reliant disciplined children are on their own and the father is not to meddle in their lives. Those children who remain dependent (who were spoiled, overly willful, or recalcitrant) should be forced to undergo further discipline or cut free with no support to face the discipline of the outside world.”

323)    George Lakoff, “Simple Framing”,

“On the day that George W. Bush took office, the words "tax relief" started appearing in White House communiqués to the press and in official speeches and reports by conservatives. Let us look in detail at the framing evoked by this term.

The word relief evokes a frame in which there is a blameless Afflicted Person who we identify with and who has some Affliction, some pain or harm that is imposed by some external Cause-of-pain. Relief is the taking away of the pain or harm, and it is brought about by some Reliever-of-pain.

The Relief frame is an instance of a more general Rescue scenario, in which there a Hero (The Reliever-of-pain), a Victim (the Afflicted), a Crime (the Affliction), A Villain (the Cause-of-affliction), and a Rescue (the Pain Relief). The Hero is inherently good, the Villain is evil, and the Victim after the Rescue owes gratitude to the Hero.

The term tax relief evokes all of this and more. Taxes, in this phrase, are the Affliction (the Crime), proponents of taxes are the Causes-of Affliction (the Villains), the taxpayer is the Afflicted Victim, and the proponents of "tax relief" are the Heroes who deserve the taxpayers' gratitude.

Every time the phrase tax relief is used and heard or read by millions of people, the more this view of taxation as an affliction and conservatives as heroes gets reinforced.”

324)    Kalle Lasn, “The Meme Machine”,

“A meme (rhymes with ‘dream’) is a unit of information – a catchphrase, a concept, a tune, a notion of fashion, philosophy or politics. Memes compete with one another and are passed through a population in much the same way as genes pass through a species. Good strong memes can change minds, alter behaviour, catalyse collective mind-shifts and transform cultures. In our information age, whoever has the memes has the power.

For about forty years corporations have had the power. They’ve been beaming their memes into our brains at the rate of about 3,000 marketing messages per day (that includes all the ads, brands and logos you see and hear on TV, on computer screens, magazines, radio, billboards, buildings, T-shirts, appliances, etc). This onslaught – arguably the biggest psychological experiment ever carried out on the human race – has changed us profoundly. The food we eat, the cars we drive, the way we feel about our bodies, our sexuality, what music we think is ‘cool’, have all been shaped by the billions of pro-consumption memes dumped into our collective subconscious daily.”

325)    Walter Lippman,

“…the media thus create a "pseudo-environment" that intervenes between self and world in order to allow people to make sense of the world…however, since this media "pseudo-environment" moves people to take certain actions and not others, it is crucial that this mediation is done properly...To that pseudo-environment his behaviour is a response. But because it is behaviour, the consequences, if they are acts, operate not in the pseudo-environment where the behaviour is stimulated, but in the real environment where action operates." (p. 10)

326)    Ivan Fraser & Mark Beeston, “The Brotherhood and the Manipulation of Society”,

“…those in the positions of influence – politicians, bankers, corporate executives, media moguls – have been, according to their own definition, 'successful' within the System, so have an interest in maintaining the status quo at all costs. This framework shapes every aspect of our life through education, the media, health care, cultural and sporting events, religion etc.

With these framing conditions in place, the System regulates itself: individuals with attitudes that suit the perpetuation of the System achieve status and influence within it; those who accept the establishment rules soon find ways to impose those rules; those who are blind to the exploitative realities of consumerism attain positions to promote it. Regardless of how the framework came to be imposed, the truth is that the same attitudes control education, media, governments and banks and therefore exert an irrepressible influence over every aspect of our lives, our thoughts and opinions.”

327)    Robert McChesney, “Springtime for Goebbels”,

“…it took me some time to recognize the special greatness of our modern corporate free press. What did the trick for me was to bone up on my free market economics by reading the complete works of Milton Friedman. I then subscribed to Forbes Magazine and studied the speeches of Jack Kemp and Dan Quayle. I learned that capitalism is freedom and that capitalism equals democracy. So the more money a media firm makes, the freer it is and the better off we all are. The worst thing that could happen, then, would be to put some joker quoting Jefferson or John Stuart Mill in charge of our media. The companies would go broke. We not only wouldn't have a free press, we wouldn't have any press at all. What moron could possibly want this outcome? We'd get our butts kicked by foreigners in the race to control the information highway. I want my kids growing up speaking English, thank you.”

328)    John McMurtry, “The FTAA and the WTO:  the Meta-program for Global Corporate Rule”,

“Behind the unfolding disasters of regional economies and planetary ecosystems melting down, the threat is driven by an underlying meta-program, in terms of which every decision, every policy, every regulation and implementation is demanded and instituted by servant governments. The meta-principles constituting this mind-set are robotic, much like the mind-set of a fanatic cult.   But because they are presupposed by the corporate party and its media and political servants as the given order of the new world,  they are never exposed as a deranged program of mind. Only fragments and partial themes are discerned, not the underlying structure as a dictatorial whole.   The invisible prison of this agenda for world rule always conforms to the following meta-principles.”

329)    Brian Davey, “The Manufacture of Consent as Emotional and Cultural Management”,

Emotional management is necessary to any hierarchical society. Typically, negative feelings are channelled downwards - against scapegoats, the socially outcaste and excluded. In times of particularly deep social crisis negative feelings are turned outwards against foreign enemies and other communities. In Orwell's novel, 1984, with his bleak vision of the future, war is a continual fact of life - it serves to channel all discontent against 'the enemy' and smother it internally.”

330)    Tim Rifat, “Microwave Mind Control”,

“Equipment to test the frequency and intensity of microwave phones shows that they produce signals similar to microwave ovens…The Soviets used the frequencies and intensities used by mobile phones, 1800 MHz and 900 MHz, as weapons. It is a rule of the intelligence community that you hide things in plain view, getting the public to accept microwave mind control weapons which effect their behaviour under the guise of mobile phones was a stroke of genius. Getting the public to pay for these microwave mind control devices, so their brains and behaviour can be damaged, to make them more docile and easy to control, was pure diabolical genius.”

331)    The Meme/Memetic Lexicon,

“Memes have a life-cycle similar to parasites. During the transmission phase of the meme it is encoded in a vector, such as a spoken message, text, image, email, observed behaviour or slab of stone. When a potential host decodes the meme (reads the text, hears the message) the meme may become active and infects the person, who becomes a new host (the infection phase). At some point the meme is encoded in a suitable vector (not necessarily the same medium it was originally decoded from) and can be spread to infect new hosts.”

332)    “Mothers and Vaccines:  Saving or Destroying Childrens’ Lives”,

“In the Science of Coercion (Oxford Press, 1994) author Christopher Simpson exposes the insidious and destructive manner in which "psychological warfare" has been scientifically honed and practiced on world populations, particularly scientists in academia, by covert intelligence agencies working through a few academic and private institutions with principle funding from the Rockefeller Foundation. The result has been the development of very subtle and sophisticated communication methods by which humans are systematically brain-washed into holding certain beliefs that effect every aspect of what people think, say, and do. Ergo, Hitler's immortal proclamation that "the greater the lie, the more people will believe it, " has direct relevance to the often touted belief that "vaccines are safe and effective."

333)    Occult dimensions of Nazi mentality,

“If a modern ritual magician of the utmost expertise had designed a ritual intended to 'invoke Mars' he could not have come up with anything more effective than the ceremonies used at Nuremburg…Inextricably entwined into the art of magic is the language of 'Symbolism'. Every day, you will see hundreds of symbols on buildings, on television, in newspapers and magazines which are created to literally hypnotise us into buying their products, or believing what they are displaying. This is 'Symbolism'. A metaphysical power. Today, commercial advertising is the greatest use of the 'language' of symbolism at work.”

334)    Lonnie Wolfe, “For Whom the Polls Toll”,,

“Immediately after World War II, the most extensive profiling of the American population to date took place under the auspices of a project run jointly through the Tavistock-Frankfurt School networks, ostensibly to study ``prejudice'' in the United States. The study, whose most notorious volume was titled The Authoritarian Personality, was used to promote the still widely-held belief that fascism derives from certain ``personality types,'' and its quack measurements and description of this personality type have since been used to target any enemy of British policy interests.”

335)    Propaganda,

“Gustav Siegfried Eins was a British black propaganda radio station during World War II. It was the brainchild of Sefton Delmer, and claimed to be an illegal radio station operating within Nazi Germany. The callsign was based on the German Army phonetic alphabet for the letters GS, but had no meaning.

The broadcaster was Peter Seckelmann, a defector from Berlin, who used the name 'Der Chef' and claimed to be a fanatical Nazi. In the first Gustav Siegfried Eins broadcast, immediately after the flight of Rudolf Hess to Scotland, Der Chef ranted that "As soon as there is a crisis, Hess packs himself a white flag and flies off to throw himself and us on the mercy of that flat-footed bastard of a drunken old cigar-smoking Jew, Churchill!"

Most of Der Chef's diatribes were directed against low- and middle-ranking Nazi Party officials, which he portrayed as selfish, corrupt and sexually depraved gangsters whose behaviour shamefully contrasted with 'the devotion to duty shown by our brave troops freezing to death in Russia'.

The station operated until 1943, when the station was closed. The scripting ostensibly had the Gestapo storm the station and shoot Der Chef. Unfortunately, the recording engineer who played the transcription did not understand German, and played the "death" of Der Chef twice.

The station was replaced by Soldatensender Calais.”

336)    “The Nazi’s Use of Film”,

“There are those - including Lenin and Goebbels themselves - who believed film to be a uniquely powerful propaganda medium (today, their priority would no doubt be television). The political cinema which had been most widespread prior to the Nazi take-over had been Socialist and Communist cinema, in other words from the opposite end of the political spectrum from the Nazis.  The amazing Battleship Potemkin, directed by Sergei Eisenstein, had been immensely popular in Berlin.  Of this film, Goebbels himself said, ‘It is a fantastically well-made film and displays considerable cinematic artistry.  The decisive factor is its orientation.  Someone with no firm ideological belief could be turned into a Bolshevik by this film.  This proves that a political outlook can be very well contained in a work of art and even the worst outlook can be conveyed if this is done through the medium of an outstanding work of art.’  Indeed, Battleship Potemkin was considered so powerful that members of the German army were not allowed to see it and it was in fact banned in Britain.  In itself the popularity of Socialist and Communist film prior to the Nazi assumption of power must raise questions about the irresistible power of film propaganda.”

337)    John Gardener,  “An introduction to psychological warfare and propaganda”,

The basis of this information control has, as one of it's essential needs, the requirement that the real machinery of control remains hidden, and out of political sight. Control is only possible when the control machinery remains invisible to the proletariat and the working class, when the political method of dissemination does not represent a political element of the information disseminated. Once this element of the control machinery becomes visible, then the information it disseminates is increasingly questioned, and the social control ability is lost. It is only possible to lie and be believed when the listener is unaware that the speaker is a liar.”

“Who benefits from the World Trade Center and Pentagon terrorist attacks? I can tell you that no Arab nation benefits. I can tell you that no Muslim benefits. So why would any of them mount an attack that even the most stupid idiot fanatic in the world would understand to be the instrument of the absolute condemnation and alienation of his cause by all humanity?

Like most Americans I looked to the Arab world for the source of the attack, Not because it was the most obvious solution, but because I have been programed by the media to look only in that direction. I did not look elswhere until stories appeared that set alarm bells ringing. Are we being deceived and manipulated? Who benefits from these attacks? “

341)    Michael Rivero, “A Flag is not a blind-fold:  Are Americans the victim of a hoax?”,

“It is also quite possible, indeed likely, that the United States is being spoofed by a third party to trigger a war. It has happened before. According to Victor Ostrovsky, a defector from Israel's secret service, Mossad, Israel decided to mount a false-flag operation designed to further discredit Libya, and provoke the US to attack an Arab nation.[6] A transmitter loaded with pre-recorded messages was planted in Tripoli, Libya, by a Mossad team. The `Trojan Horse' beamed out fake messages about Libyan-authorized bombings and planned attacks that were immediately intercepted by US electronic monitoring. Convinced by this disinformation that Libya was behind the 1986 bombing of a Berlin disco in which a US soldier died, President Ronald Reagan ordered massive air attacks on Libya, including an obvious- and illegal(under US law) attempt to assassinate Qadaffi himself. Some 100 Libyan civilians were killed, including Qadaffi's two year old daughter. Libyan officials had no idea why they were attacked.

342)    Roadshow of Deception,

“An illusionist uses misdirection and sleight of hand to manipulate their audience to see one thing when in fact they are seeing nothing of the sort. Magicians perform their misdirection and sleight of hand to baffle and amuse their audience. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have defined psychological operations (PSYOPS) as those that: ‘include psychological warfare and, in addition, encompass those political, military, economic and ideological actions planned and conducted to create in neutral or friendly foreign groups the emotions, attitudes, or behavior to support achievement of national objectives. ‘Another proposal develops the concept of 'strategic psychological operations' as aimed at influencing and shaping decision-makers' power to govern or control their followers.’ “

343)    >Dick Sutphen, “The battle for your mind:  Persuasion and brainwashing techniques being used on the public today”,

“CONVERSION is a "nice" word for BRAINWASHING . . . and any study of brainwashing has to begin with a study of Christian revivalism in eighteenth century America. Apparently, Jonathan Edwards accidentally discovered the techniques during a religious crusade in 1735 in Northampton, Massachusetts. By inducing guilt and acute apprehension and by increasing the tension, the "sinners" attending his revival meetings would break down and completely submit…Technically, what Edwards was doing was creating conditions that wipe the brain slate clean so that the mind accepts new programming. The problem was that the new input was negative. He would tell them, "You're a sinner! You're destined for hell!" As a result, one person committed suicide and another attempted suicide. And the neighbours of the suicidal converts related that they, too, were affected so deeply that, although they had found "eternal salvation," they were obsessed with a diabolical temptation to end their own lives.”

344)    Allen Douglas & Michael Sharp, “Mass-Murder in Australia:  Tavistock’s Martin Bryant”,

Tavistock specializes in what its own psychiatrists call "brainwashing"--the use of stress-induced fear to artificially create neurotic states of mind, which may be programmed as desired. For instance, Tavistock offered the anxiety-ridden American youth of the 1960s--hit by the Cuban missile crisis, the assassinations of political leaders, and the TV's incessant bloody images of Vietnam--a retreat from this horrifying reality, into the consolations of rock music, drugs, and sex.

Taking the bait, the future leaders of America and other nations regressed into an infantile preoccupation with self; patriotism, and an agapic concern for the "common good," were replaced by a hedonistic obsession with "my body," "my feelings"--a {counter}culture. More generally, Tavistock's "theory of turbulence" specifies that entire populations may be driven into a similar infantile regression by repeated terrorist shocks, such as the bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building, the sarin gas subway bombing in Japan, or the dozens of Martin Bryant-style mass murders around the world over the past decade.”

345)    Byron T. Weeks, “Tavistock:  the best-kept secret in America”,

“The ideology of American foundations was created by the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London. In 1921, the Duke of Bedford, Marquess of Tavistock, the 11th Duke, gave a building to the Institute to study the effect of shellshock on British soldiers who survived World War I. Its purpose was to establish the "breaking point" of men under stress, under the direction of the British Army Bureau of Psychological Warfare, commanded by Sir John Rawlings-Reese.”

346)    Wes Moore, “Television:  Opiate of the masses”,

“…television is like a double edged sword: not only does it cause the endocrine system to release the body's natural opiates (endorphins), but it also concentrates neurological activity in the lower brain regions where we are motivated by nothing but the pursuit of pleasure. Television produces highly functional, mobile ‘bio-survival robots.’ Television has also spawned a ‘culture of fear’  in the U.S. and beyond, with its focus on the limbic brain-friendly sensationalism of violent programming. Studies have shown that people of all generations greatly overestimate the threat of violence in real life. This is no shock because their brains cannot discern reality from fiction while watching TV…And by brainwashed, I mean they've been hypnotized using very subtle and established techniques which, when coupled with television's natural effects on brain waves, make for the  most ambitious psychological engineering ruse ever concocted.”

“By 1913, Adolf had passed the novice stage in his occult pursuits. In 1918 (age 29) he claimed to hear voices announcing that he was "selected by God to be Germany's messiah" ; later he made contact with an "ascended master" whom he identified as Lucifer or "the beast from the pit". He eventually became convinced he was the reincarnation of Woden (or, Woton).  At some point, he discovered two German occultists who eloquently expressed his own understanding of Aryan religion and destiny: Richard Wagner and Friedrich Nietzsche.  These influenced Nazi thought so heavily that the authors of The Occult and the Third Reich name them as ‘the two prime initiators of the Third Reich’,  and devote two entire chapters to documenting this claim. To these can be added a third, who lived before Hitler and tried to weld Wagnerian and Nietzschean thought into one work: the British occultist Houston Stewart Chamberlain, who wrote in his epic Foundations of the Nineteenth Century (1900): ‘Every Mystic is, whether he will or not, a born Anti-Semite.’ “

“Examples of memes are tunes, ideas, catch-phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches. Just as genes propagate themselves in the gene pool by leaping from body to body via sperm or eggs, so memes propagate themselves in the meme pool by leaping from brain to brain via process which, in the broadest sense, can be called imitation. If a scientist hears, or reads about, a good idea, he passes it on to his colleagues and students. He mentions it in his articles and his lectures. If the idea catches on, it can be said to propagate itself, spreading from brain to brain. The important rule for memes, as for genes, is that they must constantly replicate. This replication is a mindless process not necessarily for the good of anything; replicators that are good at replicating flourish--for whatever reason. Meme X spread among the people because X is a good replicator.”

“Jensen: How is a propaganda war waged?

Stauber:  The key is invisibility. Once propaganda becomes visible, it's less effective. Public relations is effective in manipulating opinion - and thus public policy - only if people believe that the message covertly delivered by the PR campaign is not propaganda at all but simply common sense or accepted reality. For instance, there is a consensus within the scientific community that global warming is real and that the burning of fossil fuels is a major cause of the problem. But to the petroleum industry, the automobile industry, the coal industry, and other industries that profit from fossil-fuel consumption, this is merely an inconvenient message that needs to be "debunked" because it could lead to public policies that reduce their profits.”

"Associate Editor Dr. Stefan Possony discusses how scientists are facing the prospect of messaging directly into a target mind.  Whither psy-war? “I recommend to your attention a book called The Mind Masters by John Rossman, a Signet New American Library paperback. This is ostensibly a fantastic science fiction novel, interesting more for its content than for its style, that may well contain some real inside information. The story concerns a researcher who has, to put it mildly, been disillusioned by his work on Project Pandora, an American psychic training center run by a Colonel Pickett, who is strongly reminiscent of the mad General Ripper in Doctor Strangelove, right down to the cigar. Only he is unloosing psychic warfare rather than nuclear bombs, having convinced himself that this form of warfare is more effective and more easily controlled for elitist objectives. The disillusioned researcher, one Britt St. Vincent, is contacted by Mero, a private institute dedicated to opposing these black magic centers. (It should be obvious that only BLACK magic has ‘military applications.’)”

354)    Bobby Devito, “But is it Muzak?”

“Muzak is one of the most insidious parts of our modern-day culture. The quintessential Heavy Metal guitarist Ted Nugent (without much doubt the antithesis of the sedate style of Muzak composition) once made a bid in 1989 of ten million dollars to buy the company simply so he could erase the tapes. The company responded by making a very light version of one of Nugent's biggest hits, "Cat Scratch Fever," just to infuriate him. Why is it that musicians as well as music listeners often dislike Muzak so vehemently? While many people may think that Muzak is a harmless way of helping people to pass time and avoid silence as well as boredom, This form of music is also a powerful tool for manipulating human emotions and behavior. In 1979 alone, according to the essay "Facing the Muzak"by Bruce MacLeod, more than 100 million people were exposed to Muzak daily in over 25 countries throughout the world. Also, only seven out of 150 of the largest corporations in America during that time were not customers of the Muzak background music system.”

“In technical usage, we consider a stimulus subliminal if it is too faint, too brief, or otherwise does not stimulate our senses sufficiently to cause us to notice it, yet influences subsequent tests in some way. However, a more technically accurate term for this would be marginally perceptible.  The popular meaning of the term subliminal is anything that influences us from outside of our awareness.  Interest in subliminal influence in modern times goes back to sensory physiologist Otto Poetzl in the early 1900's, who studied the effect of rapidly flashed pictures on dreams. In the 1950's the invention of the tachistoscope for more rapidly flashing images spurred a renewed research interest in subliminal perception, the fate of stimuli not noticed.”

Harmful distrust of duly constituted authority? Because of UFOs? The scientists on the CIA panel weren't kidding. Rudolph had been a member of the Nazi party since 1931; a 1945 military file on him said simply: "100% Nazi, dangerous type, security threat..!! Suggest internment."

But the JIOA's final dossier on him said there was "nothing in his records indicating that he was a war criminal or and ardent Nazi or otherwise objectionable." Rudolph became a US citizen and later designed the Saturn 5 rocket used in the Apollo moon landings. In 1984, when his war record was finally investigated, he fled to West Germany.”

This “doctor” could, by means of fake physical examinations, place thousands of people under his power over a period of time. Estabrooks projected how, by hypnotizing key officers and programming them to follow suggestions, this ‘masked maneuver’ could enable a lowly first lieutenant to take over the reins of the entire U.S. Army.”

359)    Richard Brodie, “Crisis of the Mind”, introduction to Virus of the Mind,

“This is the most surprising and most profound insight from the science of memetics: your thoughts are not always your own original ideas. You catch thoughts—you get infected with them, both directly from other people and indirectly from viruses of the mind.  People don’t seem to like the idea that they aren’t in control of their thoughts. The reluctance of people to even consider this notion is probably the main reason the scientific work done so far is not better known. As we’ll see, ideas people don’t like have a hard time catching on.

360)    William S. Burroughs, “The Electronic Revolution”,

“My basis theory is that the written word was literally a virus that made spoken word possible. The word has not been recognized as a virus because it has achieved a state of stable symbiosis with the host...(This symbiotic relationship is now breaking down for reasons I will suggest later.)… 'It is worth noting that if a virus were to attain a state of wholly benign equilibrium with its host cell it is unlikely that its presence would be readily detected OR THAT IT WOULD NECESSARILY BE RECOGNIZED AS A VIRUS. I suggest that the word is just such a virus. Doktor Kurt Unruh von Steinplatz has put forth an interesting theory as to the origins and history of this word virus. He postulates that the word was a virus of what he calls BIOLOGIC MUTATION effecting the biologic change in its host which was then genetically conveyed.”

The awareness we can muster while in front of the curtain is inadequate to see how pervasive and false the illusion is.  Perhaps the curtain not only envelopes us but is us—our modern-made selves.”

364)    David McGowan, introduction from Derailing Democracy:  the America the media don’t want you to see,

“But the ‘truth’ that is offered  by the media is a systematic and deliberate distortion of reality. In some cases, such as the previously cited example of human cloning, this distortion takes the form of outright suppression. In many other cases, it takes the form of distraction, never more prominently on display than during the O.J. Simpson media circus. The coverage afforded this case, and others such as the JonBenet Ramsey case, while creating the illusion that the press is examining the seamy underbelly of American society, does little to shed light on the very real problems facing the average American. These stories, as well as the countless tales of individual human failing that spring forth from the media fascination with the cult of celebrity, are clearly not meant to inform, but to distract and entertain.”

“And of course I would be remiss were I not to note that the twin pillars of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, were both fascist sympathizers. In 1933 - the year that Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party ascended to power - Germany’s influential Journal of Psychotherapy published an article by Dr. M.H. Goering, a cousin of Hermann Goering, urging psychotherapists to make ‘a serious scientific study of Adolf Hitler’s fundamental work Mein Kampf, and to recognize it as a basic work.’ The editor of the journal openly calling for the Nazification of psychotherapy was Dr. Carl Gustav Jung.”

366)    Ron Patton, “Project Monarch”,

“Amidst the subtle cerebral circumvention of the gullible populace, through a multitude of manipulated mediums, lies one of the most diabolical atrocities perpetrated upon a segment of the human race; a form of systematic mind control which has permeated every aspect of society for almost fifty years.  To objectively ascertain the following, one may need to re-examine preconceived ideologies relating to the dualistic nature of mankind.
Resolving the philosophical question of whether we are inherently good or inherently evil is tantamount in shaping our perception of reality; specifically, the spiritual variable within the equation of life.”

367)    Mojmir Babacek, “The Remote Manipulation of the Human Brain”,

“In the book Psychotronic Weapons and the Security of Russia, the authors propose among the basic principles of the Russian concept of defense against the remote control of the human psyche not only the acknowledgement of its existence, but also the fact that the methods of informational and psychotronic war are fully operational (‘and are being used without a formal declaration of war’) (18). They also quote the record from the session of the Russian Federation's Federal Council where V. Lopatin stated that psychotronic weapon can

‘cause the blocking of the freedom of will of a human being on a subliminal level" or "instillation into the consciousness or subconsciousness of a human being of information which will trigger a faulty or erroneous perception of reality’ “ (19).

368)    “The CIA as a Terrorist Organization”,

“The concept of "terrorism" is not clear and there is no generally agreed upon definition of the term.  It is, however, a tactic, a means to a particular end.  A tactic can always be used, and is always a possible course of action for some group or other. Once this is understood it is clear that it is ridiculous to declare a "War on Terrorism" — one cannot defeat a tactic. To declare a war on terrorism is to declare perpetual war (which, in fact, is the intention).

369)  Jose Arguelles, from “Fifty-Six years of Hiroshima-Artificial Time Runs Out”, chap. five of Time and the Technosphere

“…1945, marks the beginning of the technospheric bubble.  It is most telling that the Second World War was concluded at the beginning of this 56-year cycle of the technosphere, for it was a war concluded not with peace but with instruments of mass destruction and terror.  Thus began the 56-year era of Atomic Terror…the technospheric sheath replaces civilization.  This is first done by the introduction of mechanistic linear time…Reflected in the noosphere, this linear, irreversible time concept levels and stunts the realization of human mass-consciousness

370, David McGowan, “Would You Mind if we Fingerprint Your Brain?”,

“The primary weapon is, of course, television -- perhaps the most powerful psychological warfare device ever created. In addition to providing a conduit for a non-stop barrage of propaganda, television has had a tremendously corrosive effect on American society…make no mistake about it, everything that is beamed at you through your television is propaganda. It should go without saying that this applies to so-called news programming, which is obviously pure propaganda and is recognized as such by most any careful observer.”

371)  Matthias Rath, The Pharmaceutical ‘Business with Disease’,

The pharmaceutical industry continues to control our society. Pharmaceutical interests control medical research, and have entire health professions dependent. To maintain and secure their position of power, the pharmaceutical companies manipulate the legislation and the media. In large-scale advertising campaigns trough all media, the pharmaceutical PR and propaganda department creates a smoke screen concealing the true interests of the pharmaceutical industry.

The pharmaceutical companies try to portray themselves in the light of Louis Pasteur, Robert Koch and other pioneers in medicine. They claim to be interested in the eradication of diseases in order to serve humanity. The truth, however, is the exact opposite: the pharmaceutical industry is interested in keeping diseases alive as a basis for an expanding pharmaceutical drug market. The goals of the Codex Cartel deliberately obstruct the eradication of diseases. Thus, the pharmaceutical industry does not act in the tradition of the saviourhood of humanity, but in the tradition of the IG Farben, a group of organized criminals willing to sacrifice countless human lives in order to maintain their profits.”

“In 1962 Rachel Carson in Silent Spring opened the world's eyes to the dangers of products leaking dangerous chemicals into the food chain.
Today we are facing a powerful new concern. It involves millions of people, particularly in the West, who are ill even though their doctors can't make a proper diagnosis. Environmental illnesses are known under a number of names, like Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME), Immune Dysfunction Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Electro-Hypersensitivity, Sick Building Syndrome.
These illnesses have variously been linked to VDUs, mobile phones and masts, electric lights, TVs, and chemicals used in the manufacture of modern appliances.
This is the first book to make the connections...”

373)  Mass-media Deception,

“...the rank and file are usually much more primitive than we imagine. Propaganda must therefore always be essentially simple and repetitious.

MM: What are the underlying forces that are leading to this corporate expansion?

SCHILLER: Well, I think that it's a convergence of the customary drives of private enterprise to control as much of the market as possible. A second factor is new technologies which allow a rapid expansion in traditional and new fields. And a third consideration is the globalization which comes out of both the new technologies and the larger size of the enterprises that are involved in these developments
